Clutch pedal stuck in the up position.

My wife calls and tells me that the jeep clutch pedal is stuck in the up position and she can't push it at all. I'm on my way over to her girlfriends house now to look at it.
What do you think coukd be the problem? Master cylinder? Slave cylinder, clutch?

if it doesnt move at all, i would guess binding on the linkage (follow the pedal up to the Master and see if it looks ok).

otherwise a seized master cylinder.

Ok, I can move the clutch pedal. One push and it seems fine, another push and it pretty hard to push. Master cylinder maybe? I really hope it's not the slave.

Is there any way to test the master?

AHA! Sonavabich! Finally it happened to somebody else!

That's exactly what my '91 did! The spring inside the master cylinder broke about 1/3 of the way from one end. The break left a sharp point that would dig into the side of the OE plastic cylinder & bind the pedal up as hard as a rock.

You need a master cylinder. Try www.rockauto.com for a low price on a new one.

After replacing it, open up the old one & post up a pic of the spring if you can please. I never got a pic of mine.

Here's a write-up I did on master cylinder replacement.

Thank you sooo much! This is a great forum!

I'm going to get the master tomorrow and post pics of the springs when I get it out.
