With my LJ leaving the stable this past year, me being a "Jeep Addict", I couldn't not have a Jeep to my name. So I picked up a built YJ off a local buddy, as I didn’t have the time to get the LJ a bit more built to handle the wheeling I’m into. Over the past 8 months I have tweaked it a bit to make it "mine".

This rig should suit me very well with what I want in a rig and so far it has. I'm sure down the line it will go under the knife, linked & whatnot, but nothing too major for the foreseeable future. Just get out and wheel!

-Brief history of your jeep and how it came to be. (optional)
I originally bought this jeep in February of 1999. It ran like crap due to the stock carb, but that was soon replaced with a Holley 2 barrel. I put on a 4" Rough Country lift and some 31" BFG MT's and ran it like that for a lot of years. It eventually got a Howell TBI upgrade. After the frame rusted out and the tranny died it slowly got build into what it is today. I had a 5.2 rebuilt by my local VoTech school, but that didn't work out so well. I am now finishing up my GM drive train swap. Somewhere around 2001 is when It picked up the DaddyJeep name. My oldest son would hear me coming home from work and run to the door and say "daddyJeep" so it kind of stuck.

Its a long story, but the used car dealer that sold it to me wanted $4999, which would come with a "new" engine because the old one was "broken". I offered him $2000 without a new engine and he agreed. Even threw in a free flatbed tow back to my house. I had the "broken" engine running inside of 3 hours. Fuel issue. It ended up running for a few years before a valve broke off and it did need an engine, but that's another story.

I don't really consider this a build in the traditional offroading sense. More of a cascade and torrent of mods centered around fun projects I want to tackle, or have tackled, to make my YJ exactly the way I want it and learn a bunch of things along the way. I'm all about fit and finish that makes the Jeep appear mostly stock.

As she sits currently, she has the rebuilt 2.5L engine with about 40,000 miles on it and the majority of the Jeep is stock. All work was done by me, mostly with inspiration from things I found on JF. Upgraded items include:

Westlake SL369 - 31x10.50R15LT 109Q tires
complete overhaul of the fluids, suspension bushings and steering components
Chevy Tahoe overhead console/switch panel DIY
Ford Explorer front seats
Nissan Pathfinder tire carrier modified to fit
DIY fabricated drop down tailgate from Ford Econoline rear door hinges
aftermarket hood assist kit
Hidden Hitch towbar
DIY dual battery kit with fabricated battery tray
stainless brake lines throughout DIY bent myself
15>20 gallon fuel tank mod
4.0L throttle body mod
new mirror relocation brackets fabricated from a Mitsubishi Montero
handbrake mod from a ZJ
Gentex temp/compass dimmable rear view mirror from a Saturn View
Mishimoto electric fan
130amp Denso alternator upgrade plus DIY big 3 cable upgrade
Brown Dog motor mounts to keep those 4 pesky squirrels in place and under control.

Upcoming projects include:
Restore CJ hardtop
Restore fiberglass hard doors
finish wiring overhead console
finish installing Ford Explorer split fold rear seats
DIY lizardskin/monstaliner on the interior

I'm very close to getting her to be my garage-kept project car, rather than my daily driver and then I can really get to work!

Days after I brought her home. The starting point in other words.

Playing around in a rare southern VA snowstorm.

Still looking pretty stock

A few months ago, after I got the Rampage top mostly fitted.

The Story:

I bought this Jeep when I was 15 and a freshman in high school, and it was bone stock. All the work that's been done to it has been done by me and my awesome dad, and it's how I learned the art of wrenchin'. The only exception to this would be the lockers that I just had a shop install due to time constraints and not having space to work at my apartment. Overall, it's been a long, slow build with lots of wheeling and a few broken parts thrown in the mix, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

So I won YJOTM back in 2016 and thought I’d give it another shot. I’ve had a some new mods since then and believe I’m about “done” for now. Was thinking of doing a D44 in the front but I should have thought about that before investing (oxymoron, jeep, investment, HAHAHA!!) money into the D30 but I’m happy with where I’m at for now. Got back from beating the crap out of my rig at the Hammers a few months ago and I was impressed with my little beast.
Details are as follows:
94 YJ 4.0 3spd with trans cooler, Rustys motor mounts, Optima Redtop, '95 booster/MC upgrade
Transfer Case NV241OR (4:1) Rock Trac, Adams drive shafts front and rear
D30 , Yukon (Warn) hubs, Lockright, Beefy steering, Dynatrac u-bolt flip kit
Ford 8.8 w Yukon Grizzly locker, Superior Super 88 kit and Ruff Stuff spring under ubolt plates, 4.10 gearing
4” Zone springs,
35” General Grabber X3’s
Smitty winch, Hi lift, homemade 10lb CO2
Armor, Barnes 2" belly, Rustys dif covers, CCFAB
tube fenders, rockers
Cushy Grant steering wheel and Corbeau RS seats

Day 1 came with winch, 33" ATs and a 2" lift, stock everything else.

Final mode

4.2 with Howell JP-1 TBI (Chevy TBI)
Team Rush Dizzy upgrade (Ford cap, unidentified upgrade coil)
Currently removing dead 2.5" springs and shocks (rear done, front this week), replacing with crown heavy duty springs (stock height), 5" shackles and Skyjacker BlackMax shocks.
15" Gambler wheels and 10.5x31" tires (and custom ride trimmed flares )

Had to drive 4 hours with an irate girlfriend to pick this up. My S-10 was destroyed when a huge Dodge Ram rammed me at 25 mph when I was stopped at a stoplight. That paid for this...
Been going through it troubleshooting alot of issues.
Tinted windows, installed stereo, kill switch, fuel lines, oil, plugs/wires/cap/rotor, diff fluid, tranny fluid, almost all sensors, lock cylinders, sway bar bushings and links, rear leafs, shackles and shocks (front this week), Hi-lift jack going on front bumper this week, fan clutch, master clutch cylinder, belts, vacuum leaks fixed, removed rear trackbar (front off this week), compression test wet/dry.
I think that covers most of what has been done. Still wanting to install a sound bar (only have passenger side speaker atm), console and possibly sound damping mats inside roof.

It's coming around though. Drives better and smoother than it did when I got it. Not a really impressive build but I have learned so much about Jeeps and auto mechanical issues in the last few months (I have done minor auto work on past cars).

@CWBreeding your image tags are (evidently) not working. Unsure why.
@paulhead two image tags are not working. Also unsure why.

*EDIT*: @paulhead fixed your tags by grabbing from your March entry.
@CWBreeding yours still are not working - i also noticed they are now missing from the March thread.

This really is a bad @$$ group of rigs. A splash of everything.... Dirty, rough, finesse, class, simplicity/sophistication and strict adherence to direction.
