1991 Yj ignition not turning.

Hello Jeepers, Ive ran into a problem with my 1991 yj 4.0L inline 6. I tried turning my key the other day and it turned but it didnt do anything. Now when i try to turn it it wont budge. The steering wheel is also locked up and wont budge either. I tried wiggling it and moving the steering wheel, but nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

Can you get it into neutral? Try rolling it a bit.

You have two different complaints. If it turned and nothing happens is one complaint. Now it wont turn is another. The second complaint is a worn out key or cylinder.

If you cannot fix it with a hammer then it has to be an electrical problem.

Agree with Boojo. Sounds like bad key cylinder. May also have bad wiring to starter. I can’t remember color, blue maybe, but I believe it should go to starter.

Before I tear this apart, could it be anything else? Like i said before it did turn once but it didnt do anything and it would sit in place and i could rotate it freely. It would then get locked when put into the 'off" position or whatever.
