Violent shaking in '88 XJ

So, today I was driving my Jeep ('88 XJ, 4.0, 5 spd.). Everything was working as it should. On the way back, I was on the highway doing about 65-70, and crossed a bridge, hitting a small bump on the other side. When I hit the bump, the back of the Jeep started shaking violently. I think it needs leaf spring bushings, but I want a second opinion. Any ideas on what could cause this?

Are sure it was the rear-end. Just that I have never heard of a DW episode from the rear end. I too would be looking at the bushing in the leafs and shackles, might also look at your Drive shaft U-joints. Maybee you just threw a wheel weight.

96 XJ 4.0 / 231 / 3.5" JY Lift/ 31" BFG /.....
93 VT1100 - Harley killer.
97 ZJ 4.0 / 242 / Stock
93 ZJ 4.0 / 2"BB / Wranglers / RIP-Gone but not forgotten.

If it aint dirty, it aint a JEEP, it's just a SUV.

I'm 99% sure it was in the rear. I don't think it was a wheel weight because I stopped and checked out the Jeep to make sure everything was good, and when I sped back up to 65, nothing shook.

If it is death wobble, (where it shimmies/shakes to the point where you think the vehicle will break apart) it can happen very intermittently. It is often triggered by a bump/pothole/railroad track, etc.

It will happen again. SEARCH for more information.
