Transmission shifting changeable?

Is there any practical way to change the shifting behavior of the AT on a '98 Cherokee Sport?

If it is something that can be done I'd like to have it upshift a little sooner at low throttle and not downshift so soon when it is opened to a little higher level with just moderate (slow) acceleration.

I don't know anything about these transmissions.

AW-4 transmission shifting is controlled by a Transmission Control Unit mini computer and the shift points are fixed, except as explained below. Make sure the Throttle Valve Cable ( sometime incorrectly called the kickdown cable ) is properly adjusted. Incorrect TV cable adjustment can cause odd shifting.

Early Cherokees have a dashboard switch that can slightly change the shifting behavior from power to comfort ( actually more like power or economy ). Later Cherokee have a computer memory that remembers how you have been driving recently and shifts accordingly. If you have been driving like Grandpa it will shift like that, if you have been driving like a teenage male it will shift more quickly and firmly.
