Pulling interior... removing center console?

Been getting some work done on the Jeep lately, ive pulled all the seats except the drivers seat and the center console.

How do I remove the center console, does the transmission shifter handle need to come off (I assume so), aswell as the t-case handle? If so whats the best way to removing them without breaking stuff...? lol.

And what is holding down the center console itself? Bolts, clips... what?

And last, I beleive the airbag censors are under the center console on my 97 (went in for recall work to re-locate them). So for saftey reasons I think I should disconnect the battery totally to prevent any accidental deployment. Is it safe to bump the censor, or once you bump it its just gonna blow up?

Thanks... progress feels good.

In my 88, the shifter handles didn't need to come off. I'd assume it would be similar in a newer one. You can pull the transfer case shifter back, and when the console is unscrewed you can rotate or w/e and pull it over the transmission shift lever.

The shifter handle just simply pulls off straight up..or mine always has.

pop up the bezel for the t-case shifter and tranny shifter, there is 1 screw under both, and then lift your console lid and there are 2 screws in there. aside from that, to get the transmission shifter bezel completely out, you need to pull the shifter handle off. (carefuly, i hit myself in the face!)

Thanks yall, so 4 bolts holding it on... 1 under the t-case bezel, 1 under the transmission bezel, and 2 under the console lid under the tray in there.

Doesnt sound bad at all. I just need to remove enough to pull the carpet out.
