ProLine Roof Racks... anyone?

Has anyone ever heard of, or used the Proline roof racks? They have some decent prices, but I hadn't heard of them before this past weekend.

Anyone have any experience?

Thanks,

jnew

Check this one out, it looks to me to be the exact same thing for a lot less. I bought one of them and have no complaints at all. I'd recommend getting the extension for it as well, it looks kind of short on top of an XJ by itself, the extension put's it more in proportion from the comsetic point of view plus gives you more cargo capacity.

I think the 45x60 Surco is a better deal @ $169.00, personally.

the reason they're cheaper is they're not the same thing. the cage may look the same but it's load capacity due to the way it mounts is different. i wouldnt put much in a rack that mounts to the factory mounts. the other rack mounts to the rain gutters on either side of the roof. it's much stronger there and can support more...plus it's usually wider...and can be longer too.

go with the first one, it's a much better rack. sac a few bucks to get better quality.

Just trying help to save the guy some cash if thats the kind of rack he is looking for...Those two racks look identical if you look at the enlarged pictures on the sites and both mount to the factory roof rails. I can understand not wanting a heavy load on the factory mount, I never throw much up there anyway other than camping equipment. I guess it depends on what the intended purpose is for using it. If I ever have a need to toss up a spare or recovery tools, I'd definitely go the way of Surco or another gutter mount type.

It mounts on the OEM rails and is very sturdy.

You also need the mounting adapters, as linked to in a post above--they are around $40.00.

That, a phillips scredriver and some locktite and you're in business!

There are, of course, all sorts of extras you can add, like spare mount, hi-lift jack mount, axe/shovel mount, tabs for lights and so on for extra cost.

I was also considering the gutter mounted crossbars instead of the factory rack mounts. I would think those would be more sturdy, plus I could add my Thule bike racks.

Would the $50 gutter mounts be a better option that the $40 factory rack mounts?

Thanks,

jnew
