Looking at 89 XJ tomorrow

I posted in buying forum but thought this is a better location for post. I have an appt to see a 89 XJ tomorrow and would appreciated any advice for inspection and test drive. I have no experience with Jeep and little 4WD knowledge. I have been reading and asking questions on forums for last couple months gaining education. A little info about vehicle. It is truly a 1 owner vehicle who has original window sticker from 31 yrs ago, and totally stock down to the original fog lights. 195K on the odometer. Clean Carfax and mileage confirmed. Averaged about 15k every 2yrs as reported by smog checks in CA. Looks great I’m pictures. CA born and raised vehicle. Highly optioned. Up Country package, tow package, Laredo trim, automatic and select trac transfer case. Any input is appreciated.

1.It doesn't have airbag. Print of horn knob on your face will not look nice. Buy 97 or whatever was first year with airbag (95?)
2.Value is close to 0.
3.Junk yards don't have 30-years old cars, you cannot go and get whatever you need.
4.Every car is going to get sold sooner or later. Let us say you buy it for 1000, then invest another 1000. Guess what? Value of your Jeep will still be 1000.
5.Is it rusty? check bottom.

Thanks for your input. This vehicle is not going to be a daily driver. Mostly to get around when rv’ing and to play off road with grandkids. Air bag doesn’t really bother me. The finding parts deal is concerning but I thought most of these XJ parts interchange? As for value of vehicle it is not an investment it is a toy. I figure it is money spent. I’d say money wasted but if I can get my grandkids to smile then it isn’t a waste. They are young now and we will be just over landing and simple trails. But if as they get older they want to get more involved I figured we could do the mods together and go from there. I was just thinking that starting with a stock vehicle to start with was better then buying someone’s modded and most likely beat up car.

I went and saw the XJ this morning. It was a time capsule Laredo. Unbelievable condition. All service records. Been shop serviced it’s whole life, the last 25 yrs at the same facility. Owner was a 75 yr old man bout vehicle when he was 44. I asked why he bought a 4WD and he told me he fly fished and used it to get to some spots in the Sierra Nevada mountains to fish. I think it is one of the cleanest stock XJ’s left on earth. Wanted a stock XJ to decide and do the mods I chose and to hopefully get my grandkids to get involved in the build. Now I’m torn, it almost seems wrong to modify it.

Also make sure you try every light, every switch, every window. Does it still have the remote fob for the keyless entry?

sounds like a nice project vehicle- let us know.

When I see the price of OEM I think aftermarket.
When I see the quality of aftermarket I think OEM.

Everything worked except factory fog lights. Haven’t got into why. Might just be bulbs or fuse. Drove great. Right steering no noises of vibration. Looks like it my need oil pan gasket and or rear main seal in near future. See sweating. No evidence on my driveway after sitting all night. Here are some pictures.
