How many mpg's am i loosing out on?

96 4.0 217xxx. Broken 02 sensor, and could use a typical tune up. How many mpg's am i loosing between these two factors? I know its not a hybrid for gas but just woundering if its actually worth fixing both of these as right now the xj runs fine and doesnt seem to be lagging power? 3.55 auto, 3'' lift on 31's.

...What are you getting AT THE MOMENT??
MPG can vary widely between similar vehicles...
And searching the forum will reveal dozens of MPG related threads.

As for whether it's WORTH doing a tune up and fixing important emissions related components, guess that depends on how many miles you drive annually and if the state does smog checks.

:/

Make your Jeep happy and give her the ol' tune up.

Not only will a tuneup maximize your fuel efficiency, it will make your XJ more reliable.

One example is that I've seen rotors explode from age, etc. Do the work. You will get a good "return on your investment" in a number of ways.

NTK oxygen sensor, Champion copper plugs gapped to .035, quality plug wires, distributor cap and rotor. Check or replace air filter.

99 Cherokee, 4.0 AW4, NP242
Past Jeeps: 49 Willys, 81 Scrambler, 88 Comanche
Without "data", all you have is an opinion!

X2^^ First thing I did when I bought my xj was a new cap, rotor, plugs, wires, and air filter. Made the mistake of getting bosch spark plugs, once the gurus on here found this out they told me to take them back and get champion copper plugs. The xj is super reliable, never let me down. You scratch your jeeps back and it will scratch yours.

My recommendation is to stick with Champion plugs. Just go to your local parts store (my favorite is Napa) and they will be able to set you up.

A tuneup is never a bad thing. It's amazing what replacing the coil, wires, distributor cap & rotors, and plugs did for mine.

However, unless you're opening your tank and letting your MPGs run loose like wild horses, I think the word you want is "losing".

+ 1 on the champion plugs. Cheap, no frills, no gimmicks. Everyone I know that has a Jeep swears by them and I've heard plenty of horror stories from people that have tried anything other than champions.

It's a Jeep thing. Sometimes I don't even understand.
