Exactly how rare is my 95 XJ? Is it a great find?

I recently traded my 96 ZJ for the Jeep of my childhood dreams, literally the EXACT one.

It's a red 1995 XJ Sport 2-door, with the 4.0L HO motor, AX15 tranny and NP242, and the Chrysler 8.25" rear end. It was a great find with No damage and no problems for only $1500.:)

My Jeep buddies keep telling me I've stumbled across something rare.

To a certain extent I knew it was a unique XJ, but it was literally just the exact Jeep I'm been looking for for YEARS.:D

Does anybody know how many other XJs with my configuration were made? I'm curious. I know my way inside and out of XJs since I've had a 92 sport auto, but don't know much about their history.

242s arent as common, nor are 2 doors, but I wouldnt say rare. If it were something like a postal truck, or an Orvis, that might be considered rare, but there isnt much rare about Cherokees considering they didnt change them overall for long periods of time.

Good condition for $1500, with winter coming, that mgiht be rare ;)

i dunno, i have never heard of an ax15 being mated to a 242 from the factory.

need4speedtonka 10-20-2011 04:44 AM

242 ,ax15 and ch8.25:confused:

jeepguy03 10-20-2011 06:12 AM

The NP242 was likely swapped in. They didnt come behind the AX-15 from the factory. Even the rare 5spd ZJs came with the NP231.

Congrats on your purchase!

I've got a Red 1995 2dr XJ, same as yours except with the 231 and factory hidden winch and skids. I can't comment on how rare or common they are, but they certainly are good looking Jeeps!

Awesome!

I know the truck isn't exactly rare considering that the Cherokee was made for so many years, but I also know that the 242 didn't come stock so I figured it was a good find.

Well, anyway, with rarity aside, the only thing that matters to me is that apparently I got an XJ with all the mechanical goodies ( Not putting them down, but a 2.5 4x2 auto XJ wouldn't be as desirable to me) and that's all that matters.

I dreamed about having this exact Jeep since I was a child, and even have two models of it ahaha.

Things are looking up for me :)

The last XJ I had always had squealing problems no matter what I fixed, and the NSS was a *****. This one is worry free....good thing to have considering I live in the salt belt ><

I believe the previous owner said 3.55 gears.

I'll post pictures tomorrow, when I have access to a desktop instead of my iPad.

He's not cosmetically perfect, a dent and ding here and there but nevertheless in mechanically amazing shape

Welcome to the Red 1995 5-speed XJ club lol

Above posters are right the 242 didn't come from the factory in the truck - must have been swapped in at one point. AX-15/C8.25 is a good combo, but not rare. Axle ratio will be 3.07 with that tranny.

2 door is a nice find though...

We need to start one on here!

Mine's not cosmetically perfect either. I've done a more or less ok job of fixing up the numerous paint chips from the PO but the body panels are still dented. I just went through and refreshed the black tape above the side molding -- previously it was all "chipped" and ragged along the top (again, PO).

I'll get some pics of mine tomorrow & post them....

Oh, and Dukie, I've been admiring how nice you've kept your Jeep for the amount of miles it has (and I love stock look).. Inspiring!

Haha thanks, it's nice to finally be aboard :)

Had a 92 2door XJ Sport auto before, and I positively adored it. I'm taking this new XJ of mine all the way to 300,000 :)
