Driver side front wheel spins but has no power

Hi all, After last weekend - 1986 Cherokee - Dana 30 front axle with central axle disconnect (CAD) with DIY PosiLok - I noticed some front axle noise and that something is wrong.

I have my rig up on jack stands.
The transfer case range selector shifts normally to 4 high
The front drive shaft spins normally
The CAD DIY posilok engages correctly
The passenger side wheel spins up normally
The driver side wheel barely spins up.
When listening carefully at the driver side wheel I hear a subtle rattling 'bearingish' like sound coming from the center area of the wheel approximately.

I disassembled the driver side.
Everything appears normal.
I pulled the driver side axle it is fine. No damage visible.
The hub and bearings are nearly new and appear normal.

I pulled the cover off the front differential expecting something there, like metal in the bottom. But I find no visible broken parts, nothing in the fluid.

Is my problem inside the differential itself?

I have never worked on a differential and don't know what to expect - if that is the problem. Do you all have any advice? Is there a write up somewhere that will get me going?

Thanks in advance,

Andy

P.S. - The reason I sense a possible problem is that the way it spins now is the opposite of the way it used to spin. The driver side wheel would spin first and the passenger side second. Later today I will get to work on it.

You have a normal operating open differential..... (unless you have a locker, then there is an issue)

^^^ What he said. Grab your right wheel to stop it and the left should start spinning.

Looking to buy MJ, 2.5L, 5 speed, 4x4. *PM me*

This front axle has a central axle disconnect (CAD) and a do it yourself (DIY) cable pull to engage the front axle replacing the vacuum operated system which can develop breaks or leaks. (PosiLok)

Older XJs and YJs had vacuum disconnect axle shafts (2 piece). The system often messes up ... people replace them with solid shafts or a system to engage them / disengage them in a more reliable manner.

Not to be confused with posi-traction.
