Xj Dana 30 1997-2001

Jeep History, 2001 Sport with a Police Package 242 transfer case.
- Jeep has a 3 inch lift. I have a slight vibration in the mirrors up to about 35mph.

I do realize the rear pinion angle could be the problem.

I'm getting ready to purchase some front upper & lower control arms to compensate for the lift. I figured at this point, since the axle is basically out and the brakes are at perhaps less than 30% pad remaining, the wheel bearing hubs are getting tired, I figure it's time for some better "options".

I plan on purchasing a used 1999 High Pinion Dana 30 front axle for the Jeep Cherokee Sport XJ.
My question is;

Can I install ALL 2001 XJ Low Pinion front axle parts to 1999 XJ High Pinion front axle?
- Wheel bearing hubs?
- Universal joints (4x4 & front pinion yoke)?
- Brake rotors?
- Brake calipers?
- Brake hoses?
- Upper / Lower ball joints?

I want to put this back together & not worry for another 100,000 plus miles (except brakes).

Any clearance issues I might come across? Incompatibility issues?

Any recommendations on brand name quality parts to install? Timken & Moog is what I'm leaning towards. Black Magic Brakes, with perhaps www.frozenrotors.com

Somewhere I read the Low Pinion front axle was used, because of the 2000/2001 exhaust clearance issues. I'm ASSUMING with a 3 inch lift, I shouldn't have to worry about front drive shaft / exhaust pipe clearance issues.

All XJ D30 axle parts interchange High vs. Low pinion except for the differential carrier and the ring/pinion gear.

Don't forget about the compatibility issues with the mid 1999 model year change in hubs and rotors. Read this >>> www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/any-difference-hubs-360959/ . Use Timken hubs.

Longer lower control arms would be beneficial at 3 inches of lift, uppers are not necessary. Exhaust clearance will not be a problem.

At 3 inches of lift with some vibrations, I would invest in an SYE.

Thanks Tim,

After searching the Internet for about 3 days, with perhaps 2 hours of reading posts from different sites, that is the information I was looking for.

If I cross the bridge of a SYE, who would you recommend? I wonder if Proven Force Clutch & U-joint have done this in the past.

Proven Force has a great reputation for customer service and quality workmanship. I would get a any HD SYE that is not OmixAda or Crown Automotive. I have an Advance Adapters unit on my 2000, the install was not difficult at all.
