Cruise control

My cruise control works only once in a while. However when I push the ON button the cruise lamp in the dash always turns on. I have replaced the vacum cannister in the engine bay.Works every 1/4 time. Checked for vacum leaks, but foun d none.

some thought-
the AIRBAG light is off?
The CEL is off?
Is there 12v at the servo? DB/RD wire.
>>I suspect above is NO then

The brake switch, NOT the part of sw that turns on brake lamps, the switch supplies 12v to servo?

When I see the price of OEM I think aftermarket.
When I see the quality of aftermarket I think OEM.

I would also check the cable going from the cruise controller to the throttle body. Try lubricating it so it moves freely.

Thanks for trying to assist me, Yesb the AIRBAG light is off, but
I don't know what DB/RD wire is or where it is located. I neither know what "sw" means, or the "servo" or "CEL".

CEL = check engine light, look's like an engine.
SW= Switch
Hard to explain servo.

The most common cause of non functioning cruise control is faulty switches on the steering wheel.

Servo is an electrical+mechanical actuator. It is the device under the hood that does the work to operate the cruise control.

Check the vacuum tube and the electrical connector. Split vacuum tubes, rotten elbow tube junctions, and damaged wires or corroded wire plugs are logical suspects.

See picture.

Also if the cable coming from the servo going to the throttle body is sticking it can effect it also. spraying some lubrication on it can help.

Thanks. No CEL.(Car is in excellent condition except for this issue). I replaced the servo.

It works perfectly when it works, but if I turn it off and on again, it's dead. After several tries it might work again. It dosn't stop working while on, only when I try to start it up again

Yu claim the light comes on - and it works sometimes, I suspect the brake switch. Common problem.
The servo shown above - there are 4 wires, is there 12v on the dark blue wire.

When I see the price of OEM I think aftermarket.
When I see the quality of aftermarket I think OEM.

OK, thanks. That is someting I have not thought about and seems sound. I will try to adress the brake switch. Is it mounted on the brake pedal?

It should be just behind the brake pedal. Also when you press on the cruise control switches on the steering wheel can you feel some resistance or a bump while pressing down on the switch? You could need new switches in the steering wheel also.
