Cant remove key

I just bought a 89 jeep cherokee with a right hand drive conversion (for delivering mail) and I drove it 5 hours on the interstate to get it home only to find that I couldn't remove the key from the ignition (stock column and ignition). It doesnt seem to be turning all the way back to the point where you could remove it and the previous owner didnt seem to have any problems removing nor did I when I test drove it. Am I missing something or do I need to spend the $10 to replace the ignition lock cylinder. Thanks

my fix

I have a 97 xj, I just hold the shifter button in and turn the key switch. Found it by accident.
