Question Best value battery?

Looks like battery is toast, lasted 2 months longer than its 3 year warranty... Autocraft Gold.
Search results are tons of much older posts and most are not valid today.
I dont have anything special - 2001 XJ with a 98 ZJ engine - located in south Florida so no temp extremes - no additional electronics.
Looking for the best value per dollar.
I might also have one I can use out of my Dakota. It states 600cca. Would that work?
One in the XJ now is 800.
Thanks

Basically if it says Mexico on it, stay away. You want a Deka battery (EastPenn makes it).

If the one you got fits in the battery compartment, it will work. Make sure the posts don't make contact with the hood. Some batteries are taller than others.

I believe Napa Legend is still made by East Penn. Go on the Napa website and look for the current Safety Data Sheet; it will tell you the manufacturer. Sometimes basic and premium of the same brand name are made by different manufacturers.

If it says Johnson Controls, it's crap.

Get yourself a Battery MINDer with desulfation and you may be able to bring it back. I have a few and run them on my dd's for a week at a time a couple times a year. Northern Tool has them for $25 on eBay right now.

If it's beyond the warranty, it is toast. I typically get a WallyWorld. Some of the current batch has a 5 year warranty. I just bought one for the Wrangler, 5 yrs prorated $187 with $15 core rebate. We have 11.5% sales tax

I have a battery for my Jag that is a simple no name lead acid battery, bought it in 2009. It is maintained at full charge by a solar floater (min Amps) and kept in a cool place. Starts the Jag first time. I am expecting to see it fail any year now, but that is about as long as a battery can keep going.

My XJ batteries last 2 to 3 years, it gets very hot under the hood and there is a lot of crawling and vibration. If you get 3 years in a driven XJ, about right.

Sam's Club carries a auto battery brand called Duracell, which is made by East Penn. I have a group 78 in my 96 Jeep XJ. I got 5 years out of the last one. It still started fine, but I was hesitant to push my luck on another winter with it, so I replaced it with an another duracell last October. They are very good batteries and reasonably priced. I like them since they are sealed and are maintenance free.

Ditto on going to Sam's club for a Duracell (East Penn licensed the "Duracell" name to put on lead acid batteries). Just put one in my '65 Mustang.

I was going to buy an Optima for my jeep. because it is suppose to be so good. the battery guy here in town that sells them told me not to waste my money. they are made in Mexico and not that good any more. so I just bought the "regular" battery that was the cheapest and it has worked good for a couple of years.

I know this sounds funny but I bought one at Home depot for cheap for my wife's car and it works good.

If you are going to be using a winch alot then get a deep cell marine battery.

Optima went garbage ever since Johnson Controls bought them out.

If you are willing to spend the money on an AGM, get an Odyssey Extreme series (what I have now). You get twice the crank power of a lead acid and they last forever.

Best value battery?

I am just talking in general here and not specific to the XJ or any other Jeep.

...I tend to just buy the cheapest one I can find, I have tried expensive Borsch and other high end brand batteries, and I havenít noticed any difference in them at all....maybe thereís a difference in extreme cold climates, but we donít really get those winters here in Denmark anymore *knock on wood*

Also both the expensive and cheap batteries seem to last around 3-4 years (even if they claim to last longer).

Itís possible that in Motorsport and extreme climates / situations or if you have a lot of aftermarket stuff installed, that a high end battery will perform better than a cheap one...I wouldnít know...

But for your normal everyday driving in a stock or lightly modified vehicle, I donít see any reason to buy an expensive battery

Just my opinion

I have always had good luck with the federated ones. We sell a lot of them at our dealership (Toyota) for non brand vehicles. I also use them in my personal vehicles as I can get them at cost, plus you never have a problem warranting through federated.
