In fact I want a silencer on mine.
You could always add a second muffler in the back. :-D

Is it enough said? I and many others strongly dislike the 40 and 44 sounds. I can't be labeled as a Flowmaster hater since I'm using a 50 myself. Sound is subjective, and "enough said" is hardly a compelling explanation.

Open headers sound REALLY loud.....so an exhaust dump would louden up take offs and then can be shut up for regular driving/ cop passing

The only way you're going to find a sound you like is by going on YouTube or blowing a bunch of money on mufflers. I wasn't going to write a paragraph about why I think the Flowmaster super 40 is good. I personally like it on my particular engine / exhaust configuration. I have 2.5" exhaust from the collector, no cats except for pre-cats and a flowmaster 40 and in my opinion it's the best sound. I've tried Thrush Welded, Cherry Bomb Shorty and cherry bomb standard, no muffler at all etc. Don't hate on my suggestion. Go on YouTube to get an idea of what you like. Some people want a throaty loud exhaust that drones in their cab while they're on the freeway, some people want a mellow smooth sound, its all about your taste.

As long as you keep you cat, its legal. Mine sounds really good just like this. But it got old pretty fast some I will be putting on another 2.5 dynomax from an older XJ once again

Yeah, to each his own on the sound. I tried three designs before settling on my current setup. First one was lobbed behind the o2 sensor then a ultra high flow ram rod cat was fitted. Then a cherry bomb with a turn down was added. After a year of that a tailpipe was built to alleviate some of the cabin drone I was tired of. Then this past February I decided I still wasn't happy and the exhaust was cut before the cat and the current exhaust was built. Stainless spun cat and thrush welded into a 2.5 tailpipe. Then in july when my engine developed a knock a stainless header was installed with the new engine. I'm pretty happy with the current setup.

I thought thats why we were on was to write paragraphs to assist others with their jeeps. Even if it is our own opinion. I myself cant stand the flowmaster because back home every kid in town had one on their z71 and mustang. Im looking for unique.

This is my XJ.

Thorley header made of T304 stainless ceramic coated inside and out. All the pipe, AP spun cat, and Flowmaster Super 50 Delta are all made of 409S stainless. The entire system is 2.25" No drone.

I went this way because my 96 had a Dynomax system, and I wanted something that would be 100% stainless and wanted to try for a slightly more aggressive sound than the Dynomax. I LOVED the Dynomax, though, don't think that I did this because I didn't--just wanted different and stainless.

MAGNAFLOW, hands down best sound at idle and all the way through the rim range.... flowmaster, dynomax, glass pack, or even borla don't sound near as good.
