Aftermarket radio, no radio reception

I recently acquired an '88 Wagoneer that has an older aftermarket head unit in it, a mid-nineties Frontier something-or-other. Nearly all of the functions work, including the 3.5mm "Cd" input. The only problem is that I get no AM / FM radio reception whatsoever. If I crank the volume to the max, there is a bit of static, but it's otherwise mute.
I've replaced the head unit -> antenna wire, as it was busted. I've also replaced the old power antenna, which was broken as well. I grabbed a fixed-mast unit from the jy. The connection behind the passenger kick panel is tight, as is the connection to the back of the head unit.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

There's pretty much only the 20+ year old HU and the antenna involved, sounds like you need a new deck. Personally I like kenwoods and have had very good luck with them, but a lot of guys prefer pioneers, if only for similar performance and features for less money in most simple setups.
