2001 XJ Paint PU7

Has anyone bought paint before? I can't believe how much trouble I am having. I would like to do base and clear for practice rather than single stage paint, but it seems to be hard to buy automotive paint.

Are you planning on painting the whole jeep? If you have a Napa Genuine Paints shop near you, I would drop in and see if they can help you out. Always had great experiences with them. You got to go some where that is dedicated to that. Don't waste your time shopping online until you've seen real examples.

Explain the difficulties you are having ? One can buy custom mixed color coat/clearcoat paint from numerous websites, or from any local auto body supply house.

You can get that color code mixed at any paint shop, but you will have to buy a certain amount. I am sure they will sell you some clear coat also. But unless you are just touching up you will need to apply it with an paint gun to get it to blend in.

I am repainting the entire Jeep. I plan on doing it properly.

As for buying paint. I can't find a paint shop to go into. I look at different companies that make paint but they only deal with distributors. It looks like I can purchase from TCP Global as a single stage paint. I would rather do base and clear for a bit of practice for whatever my next project will be. Most places seem to only do business with the trade and not the public.

check to see if you have a Sherman Williams Automotive nearby, I've got one down here in Pensacola that actually was able to mix up some color matched Chrome Yellow for my old VW Bus and put it into a spray can (touch up after rust repair). If you have one they should be able to do/make/get whatever your looking for.

Really any body shop in your area can mix the paint for you.

I went with TCP Global. I read about a number of people who have used them and like it. Sherwin Williams is not OEM paint. They mix to get it close. I'm not sure how close they get.

Calling TCP was helpful as online they only sold my color as a single stage enamel. Calling they said they could mix up as a Base and clear in Urethane which is more durable.

Epoxy sealer and body work done. Now Urethane primer on. Lots of sanding ahead. Those are Notch Fender Flares. They house 35s on a 3.5" lift.
