2000 postal Cherokee needs engine

Hello! I have had an 89 Cherokee in the past, and loved it. So when I came across this mail edition I couldn’t pass up the right hand drive fun!
She is knocking concerningly loud though, and I found someone with an engine to get and swap. I’m also wondering what the chances are of a 5 speed transmission out of an 87 Cherokee being able to bolt up to the 2000 4.0, as it would be an awesome swap. Any advice or questions are welcomed and encouraged!

i think a rhd would be awesome...… till you go through the drive through for lunch, ha ha ha, but i would love to get one. i see them show up regularly here in south texas on wranglers and Cherokees but we already have our Cherokee so i cannot justify having another one

the xj is the only jeep left in the driveway

I have a right hand drive and it is as God intended.

Yes, a different year manual transmission will bolt up to the AMC block, all the way back to the 70s and forward to 2000s. You will need a different flywheel, clutch etc and I suspect the speed sensor will be an issue.

I go through the drive through backwards, nothing can stop me from getting my precious Taco Bell 🤣🤣 and that’s good, the guy said he would sell me the transmission with the pedal setup and flywheel

Drive-thrus? You should try ferry check-ins, passport control/customs & toll booths! You soon learn to stop just short of the window, leap out & run round the front of the vehicle with your precious documents in your hand, a big grin on your face & a cheery greeting in an appropriate language.
