2000 Cherokee Sport (XJ)

Hello, my XJ was stolen, the immobilizer was damaged and I can't get it to run now. It will start with the remote start for 2 seconds and the quit. Does anyone know how to bypass the immobilizer to get the vehicle to run?

Thanks

Joel

Is ths a European model?
Why - a different system may have been used there.

But as your system is turning off fuel @2seconds I would suspect there are codes.
The codes would tell WHAT is the issue. Keys, wiring, SKIM.

As the vehicle was stolen might want to look at SKIM in steering column - damaged, wires damaged.
I would suspect wires AFU.

When I see the price of OEM I think aftermarket.
When I see the quality of aftermarket I think OEM.

Hello, it is an American model. The immobilizer was damaged, I attempted to repair it, not sure if it worked. I will have to get a code reader and try and trouble shoot. Any additional advice is well appreciated!!!

keep the SKIM you have.

Knowing WHAT the PCM is missing is where I would start, check codes, likely P1685 & p1686.
AT least we will know where to concentrate.

The engine starting and then shutting OFF after 2-3 seconds means the SKIM/SKIS anti-theft system is activated. The only options are to tow it to a Dealership that can use the DRB-III Scan Tool to re-flash the PCM, replace the PCM and SKIM/SKIS chip-in-key reader module, or to remove the PCM and SKIM/SKIS chip-in-key reader module.

The low cost solution is to buy a compatible XJ PCM and delete the SKIM/SKIS chip-in-key reader module. If you install a different PCM that is not mated to the SKIM/SKIS module by the Dealership, it will lock up after several tries to start the engine.

The mid cost solution is to buy a properly mated XJ PCM and SKIM/SKIS chip-in-key reader device from a compatible junkyard XJ or part out.

I prefer an aftermarket alarm with ignition disable to the factory SKIM/SKIS. New chipped keys programmed for the SKIM/SKIS are expensive.

Try to find a compatible PCM locally from a junkyard or somebody parting out, refurbished PCM's from on-line sellers are often defective or simply dead on arrival.

A 2000 4.0L XJ could have either 49 state emissions and only 2 O2 sensors, or it could be California Emissions with 2 cat converters under the exhaust manifold and 4 O2 sensors. Your replacement PCM will need to have the same part number as the PCM you have now, and not come from an Xj Cherokee with SKIM/SKIS installed.

Hello again. A quick question, with the catalytic converter stolen and the vehicle not running for more than 2 seconds, is there a way to bypass the problems I am having a get the Jeep started so I can move it? It is currently sitting in my garage here in Minneapolis, MN.

Thanks

Joel

The engine will run without a cat converter, but it will not run longer than 3 seconds if the SKIM/SKIS anti theft system is engaged. You will need to have the the SKIM/SKIS anti theft PCM re-flashed, or delete the anti theft system and install another PCM.

Send me a Private Message, I may have a spare 2000 PCM.
