1992 cherokee larado no start

hey all,

i just picked up a 1992 larado with 170mi on the clock, the guy i got it said it ran rough and had a metal to metal sound. well once i got it home started to diag it, here is where i got so far metal sound is cat hitting cross member due to vibratiing so much from running rough, no biggie. running rough well..... turns out spark plugs gaped wrong and cap and rotor show signs of wear. so i replaced the plugs, cap, and rotor but kept wires they looked ok. now i have a no start but cranks.

so my questions are i have a 1996 FSM for my 96 cherokee, and is the information the same, if not where could i get 1992 info from.

cause right now i have the plugs on the cap in the order the FMS says, so i am thinking i have the wires on the cap wrong, because it ran badly before i changed everything, but it ran. and i check the gap on the new plugs set at .35

thanks
Ryan

I missed the part that you were just looking for the firing order. According to the information that I have from the 84-93 FSM:

Firing order for 91-93:
V6 - 1-2-3-4-5-6
I6 - 1-5-3-6-2-4

Spark plug gap is .035 for all years 84-93.

A lot of stuff will be the same between the 92 and the 96 but there are some important changes in the engine control areas. as well as engine cooling systems. Others may chime in on other differences.

For the no start go back over everything because it is common to knock lose a plug or something while doing a tune up.

here is a update on the diag i did today, i had battery tested and charged so that good, i can hear fuel pump priming, starter is working, i even swapped the wires from my DD to this one with no avil.

so now i am thinking it might be the ignition coil not working, but not sure have to check for spark at the coil and at the plugs.

if i am missnig something please chime in

You need to check for spark so that we can go from there. Still looks like something got bumped or moved since it was running before tune up and won't start after.

Auto Zone had one to loan when I tested mine. They let me take it home because they knew me. If your local one knows you well enough to laugh when they see you coming they may let you borrow it.
