I bought my Dodge for my tow vehicle and must say.... I hate the F'n thing! Stupid freaking Dodge Death Wobble pisses me off and gets expensive. I replaced balljoints, tires, wheel bearings, trac bar, all the steering, and radius arm bushings. I also added a steering box brace and Bilstein shocks and steering stabilizer...... guess what, still there. Filed with the NHTSA and found out there is over 90,000 cases filed of this! They say it's a weak frame and the frame is the culprit, not the axle. Also, I baby this truck, no offroading, just a dirt road every now and then. Stupid Dodge, but I love the Cummins!

You must have had a cummins with 2million miles running on 3 cylinders, cuz your crazy if you think your big block tows better than a 5.9 cummins

Both trucks are 2001's and the cummins had lower miles around 145000.

Emtpy maybe. I bet the Cummins would get no more than 12-13 pulling the same load, plus gas is cheaper by about 60 cents (here at least). That being said, if I was going to go big block gasser it sure wouldn't be a 496

My '06 Cummins is a dream compared to any other gas truck I've ever driven. It gets about 20-21 mpg's and about 18 mpg's towing.

My cummins got 11 towing and my chevy gets 10 towing.
Biggest reason I didn't like the dodge was the trans the power felt okay not great but ok. But it never really felt like it was solid until the torque convertor was locked.
The chevy just feels more solid and when you can kick it down in second gear and it drops to first gear and the tires bark when you are towing a 7000 lb trailer you just know it's hooked up good.

I also hate the problems that most dodge trucks have. Like the dash cracking, ball joints, rear ends, transmissions and so on.
All of this is why I like my chevy way better than a dodge. Now if I could have got the cummins in a chevy with the Allison trans that would be the

Most say you needed a tuner or chip for the dodge and a low stall convertor. And to them I say I shouldn't have to spend thousands on a truck to make it work right.

The rearend? There's no way in hell you'd break that AAM 11.5" axle. It is also the same axle that comes in the Chevy 3500. The front axle are the same too, both are AAM 9.5" the only difference is that you are independent and Dodge is straight axled but all the gears and carriers are interchangeable. The Chevy 2500 and Dodge Hemi 2500 all have the same rear axles too, AAM 10.5"

Every maker has it's flaws, I think:

Dodge has a weak trans and frame in the front.
Ford has weak trans and the older Powerstrokes (6.0) were a pain.
Chevy has it's independent front end.

If I could I'd either:

Take a Chevy, do a Cummins swap and straight axle it.
Or take a Dodge and put an Allison behind it.
The brand new Ford Powerstroke seems to be bad @$$ though, might just go that route.

This is mine. I have never had a problem with the Dodge, but I have only had it for nine months. We took a 2,700 mile trip over the summer in this configuration with no problems. Went to Ouray, CO, loved the exhaust brake coming down the mountain roads.
