Background
The successor to the KJ Liberty. Released in 2008, it takes it's styling cues heavily from the XK Commander, as opposed to the rounded looks of the KJ. This is thought to be a selling point for fans of the old XJ Cherokee. The KK has the familiar 3.7L V6 coupled with either a 4-speed automatic with overdrive or a 5-speed manual transmission. The spare tire is no longer being mounted on the rear of the vehicle, but hanging from the undercarriage at the back. The newly designed independent front suspension and rear 5-link is a considerable improvement in ride quality over the previous model (KJ) New to 08 is the addition of the Hill Descent Control and Hill Assist. Hill Descent Control maintains a constant speed when decending steep grades in 4-LO. Hill Assist continues to apply the brakes after your foot leaves the brake pedal and before you apply the gas. It only applies the brakes for a few seconds but this feature helps prevent roll back on hills. 2008 also marks Jeep's first retractable canvas roof, the Sky Slider, which should be available in December 2007. A common complaint is that the KK's front end looks low to the ground. The black molding on the bottom of the front bumper can be removed by removing 5 twist type fasteners, no tools needed. Jeep has also improved the Dana 30a front differential by adding more reinforcement to the pinion area. This should help stop the infamous front differential cracks that plagued the KJ.
