Brief History/Summary
In 1966, Jeep, then owned by Kaiser, launched the Jeepster Commando to compete with the Bronco and Land Cruiser. The Jeepster Was a true convertible vehicle with a manual or power retracting top. The Jeepster Commando was available in three models: a wagon, pickup truck, and a roadster. The roadster was an open topped vehicle with a snap on soft top available. The (Kaiser) Jeepster Commando stayed in production until 1969. In 1970 AMC bought Jeep from Kaiser.
AMC continued the Jeepster line until 1971.
1972 AMC shortened the name to just Commando and changed the grill design to look more like that of a Bronco, they also extended the length from 101 inches to 104 inches to make room for the newer larger engines. The Jeep Commando was taken out of production in 1973.
