Hi everyone,

I have a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee that has 71,000 miles on it. I noticed today that the top left corner of my screen is delaminating. I am obviously out of the original warranty, but I have an extended warranty through a third-party company. The delaminating has not caused the screen to malfunction so far, but based on other posts I've read, and it's only a matter of time. Has anyone had any luck getting FCA to cover this, even if you're out of the warranty period? I can go through my third party warranty, but I am worried that they will not cover it due to the screen still working properly, and I don't want to pay $159 to have it "diagnosed" if the warranty is going to reject the claim anyway. Thanks!

I'm having this same issue on my 2018. Screen started delaminating and in the last few months it's become possessed; e.g. it jumps from preset to preset, settings, fav song, etc... buttons on its own. Gotten so bad that I can't even turn it on anymore. Dealer service dept ordered a new unit about 2 weeks ago, but it since it hadn't arrived yet I stopped by today to check on it. Apparently Chrysler cancelled the order (the dealer has no clue why...and I'm not convinced they didn't lie to me anyway) and the dealer placed a new order. Hopefully it will come in soon. Also it is supposed to be covered under my Maxcare ext warranty.

Things like this are the reason I bought a Maxcare lifetime warranty when I purchased my 2018 GC. The screen on mine is still OK but it's good to know that hopefully my Maxcare will cover any replacement cost, less my $100 ded.

I don't know if it helps but when I used to park in the hot sun at work for 12.5 hours per day I got in the habit of cracking open each front window 1/4-1/2" or so, not enough to make it obvious that the windows were not all the way closed but enough that the inside wasn't going to get any hotter than the outside. On days when there was a high probability of rain I just kept them closed. It usually did not get very hot on those cloudy days anyway.

Delaminating Screens on 2018 FCA models = Known Issue

Just jumping through some threads as I just joined up. (I picked up a 2019 WK2 this weekend.)

On the delamination issues of your center screen: I had that on my 2018 Ram 1500. It is a known issue from the manufacturers on these units specific to the 2018s (at least for Ram pickups). The word was that it was close to being set as a recall, l but until then, FCA was doing goodwill replacements on these units. You just had to call them directly and explain the scenario. They usually approve within 2 business days and put the part on order for you.

Call a dealer service office, and ask them for the current FCA (Well, I guess now Sellantis) customer service number. You can also confirm if they will do so on your behalf.

The 2018 screens were a real mess, and it is a well known issue across the FCA lines using them.

Unfornately this isn’t the case for me. Just got off the phone after I was advised to get it diagnosed by dealership “delaminating” and causing ghost touching with clock setting to call back for goodwill assistance. Did as they asked and was denied any help bc it’s out of warranty and mileage. So angry right now. 2018 JGC Altitude

Talk to a dealer. Many people on the FB groups are getting this covered outside of warranty as it’s a defect. Same with corrosion on the leading edge of the hood.

Hi y'all! I wanted to tell you my experience with this situation for some encouragement and direction. I have a 2018 Grand Cherokee that I bought used from my local Jeep dealership in 2019. About a year after I bought it, I noticed the corner starting to delaminate. I called the dealership and was told I'd have to pay out of pocket since it was out of warranty. It wasn't ghost touching so I left it alone. Cut to 2 years later and the ghost touching was out of control. After tons of phone calls and trips to the dealership, I got my screen replaced yesterday as a Goodwill gesture and paid nothing for it. Since this is not a recall, the whole process is at the discretion of the dealership and Stellantis, so be patient and kind. ;)

Here are the steps you'll have to go through:

1. Bring your Jeep into your local dealership for a diagnostic report. They are aware of this issue (even if they tell you they aren't). You will get reimbursed for this if Stellantis approves the replacement.
2. Once you have it diagnosed, call Stellantis. This is a Jeep issue, not Uconnect, so don't let them transfer you around. Explain what is going on and pray you got someone good on the phone. Again, this approval is at the discretion of the person you get on the phone, so you may have to push for it. My tip is to mention the safety aspect of not being able to use handsfree and the distractions while driving.
3. If/when Stellantis approves it, get a case number and give that information to the dealership. At that point, the dealership service department can order your new radio and schedule replacement.

Something to be aware of: the person I spoke with at Stellantis told me that it was approved and was getting a case number, but then realized that I bought it used. She told me that somewhere in the fine print, Stellantis says it will only do goodwill replacements for original owners. I spoke to the service manager at my local dealership and he told me that he had never heard of that, so it's possible that they are getting more strict. He also told me that I just didn't yell loud enough when talking to Stellantis (haha). My local dealership is amazing and approved the replacement on their level.

I now have a new screen with a fresh 2 year warranty. I hope this helps someone!

Same issue here- Uconnect screen with radio/nav/driver controls is delaminating, causing screens to change and overriding all driver selections. Local dealership said to call customer care. Jeep customer care says the only option is for owners to pay the $1,000 to replace the unit with a dealer- they only provide relief to original owners, whether or not you purchased a certified-pre owned straight from the dealer. This Jeep Overland is a 2018, and the problem appears to be endemic among Jeeps. It creates serious safety issues when the unit overrides driver choices, and is also distracting as the unit beeps and switches back and forth among options.

I reported using my VIN to the NHTSA- Report a Safety Problem | NHTSA

Maybe if enough of us report, it will trigger a recall. I otherwise love the Jeep, but very disappointed in the passing of the buck on this issue. It is a dangerous situation for drivers.

Update- although Jeep Customer Care refused to pay anything, the dealership where I purchased the Jeep said they will pay for the replacement themselves. Kudos to locally owned and operated dealerships stepping up, even when the national brand does not!
