This is the Jeep my parents bought new in 1984 when the XJ first came out. It has been sitting for at least the last 7 years. I had been wanting to get it from my dad to fix it up for a while. He just recently died and I want to see if it is going to be worth taking on. I hadn't seen it in about 3 years, but when I went to check it out it was in better condition than I thought it would be sitting out in the open here in Florida. The body is solid, there are a few spots on the roof with rust exposed, but the metal feels solid. I did find two spots rusted through in the floorboard, but they are narrow strips from two windows being cracked. I think it will be an easy patch? It came with a vinyl floor liner, so no carpet. It has a carbureted 2.5 AMC with a 5-speed manual and Command-Trac 4WD. The last time I asked my dad about it he said it needed a valve job. Any estimates on what that should run? So far all I have done is air up the tires and clean out the interior. When I went to put it in neutral I tried to push the clutch pedal in and it was seized. Like an idiot I pushed hard and broke something loose. Any comments, other than on my intelligence? I need to get it moved so I can really assess everything in detail. I know there is plenty of hope left in it, but I don't want to take on more than I can really handle. I found a lot of info in this forum, and I know the deeper I get the more questions I am going to have. I would really love to get this thing running again, and from what I have seen this set up is relatively rare. Any comments or advice that any of you can offer would really be appreciated. Thanks
