JF is too big, most members are also members of local smaller forums and groups for these such things, i know my local "club" tulsaoffroad.com, we have a "recovery" thread....its a good idea though.
If we're going to get this to actually happen. We'll probably need a spokesperson or leader(no i'm not volunteering). We'll need alot more people to help push for the idea. And we'll have to talk to the mods in a professional kind of manner, not like we normally hoot and holler on the forum board.
But I'd start by doing preliminary work. Recruitment and establishment. Get yourself organized. Make it real, not just internet typing.
Then I'd present this idea fully backed up with facts/people to the head man himself. I wouldn't talk to anyone but the big cheese, not all these other moderators. (I love you mod gods btw). Ultimately it's going to be up to Keith what happens, and the other mods seem to have different thoughts on different issues. Some will like it, some won't. Just like the reast of us.
Wow what an article...That is a true jeep club. I would love to see something like this in JF maybe organized under the state or regional links since I would have no shot of helping in AZ when I live in NC. There used to be a club called Jeep Rescue .org. It was a group of volunteers across the us who would assist in SAR missions for local law enforcement agencies who did not have alot of resources. Sadly I think it went under due to fears of liability issues if someone did get hurt. It is a said day when people get discouraged to help due to folks who will sue your pants off your kids for trying to be a good American.
We would need to set up an alert system for varying degrees of help needed. Then an email or text message to go to responders phones and email accounts. As well as setting a CB or ham radio channel for member to meet up on once in the area and responding.
Just brainstorming...love the idea.. I pitched something similar to the Carolina Jeepsters after I saw the video on the net about jeepers using there vehicle in sever weather to get emergency workers into the hospitals. The answer I got was we don't need to do that because it never snows here. Then about a month ago it did snow and Raleigh was looking for people to drive.

I am trying to find out how they made it work on the other forum.... They were able to email and text just from posting a new urgent thread in the S&R section.
I agree that it should be located within the regonal areas for obvious reasons, but i dont know how often they are really checked. I am subscribed to mine but idk about most of the users?
I just don't think it will work. JF is to impersonal and to big. You would need a rescue forum for every part of the country. maybe even every state.
These things are better off on boards where you actually know the members in real life.
The group that organized the JK rescue wasn't a bunch of web wheelers who hadn't ever seen each others faces before. They were a club and they were friends with each other outside of the board.
and inevitably what would happen is someone from CO. would ask for a rescue. and like 80 people from texas would respond with "that sucks, I wish I could help" and "shouldn't wheel alone" and "pics or ban" nothing would actually get done.
a great idea, but one I highly doubt would work on a board like this.

I have thought about this before i threw the idea out. Thats why it needs to be region specific. There is an offroad forum that has S&R in Oregon but the problem is that it is just too small. By using JF it is much easier to get multiple people involved and i think it is much more up to date than most smaller forums
I agree that JF might not be the best place for it. As others have said most of us are members of local forums. Just last weekend the Colorado4x4.org forum had a recovery thread. You can read it hear http://www.colorado4x4.org/vbb/showthread.php?t=142703
Now that everyone is out and safe we can make fun about how Jeeps had to come to the rescue of a Toyota
Jeep Forum is active enough that if someone were to post a "need help" in the general areas of model specific sections people would respond with help despite some members poking fun. Maybe the easiest thing to do is create a sticky "need help" thread in the general off road section where people can post links to local clubs as a resource or volunteers could post contact emails etc.
Thats not a bad idea. My idea is to have a Search and Rescue Sticky in each of the regions so it would be area specific. then have one peron be the "leader" for each region and they would be in charge of alerting the people who agree to being on call. I am in the process of trying to find out how to use the forum as a dispatch system
Ill talk to the my club pres and the local chapter presidents across the state. We all have each others cell numbers so rescueing is never a problem. But I do know alot of young wheelers (not just jeep) around here in TX that get stuck, broken or worse rolled and have no clue who to call. Basicly what Im saying is that this can start just jeeps for JF but for locals they can extend there operations to anyone with a CB or a way to text the clubs personal forum. I know im getting far down the road but it helps to have an end goal in mind.
Hell this is the "channel 9" for jeepers
