hey, i know ive read somewhere about a guy putting a tj rear bumper on his yj instead of the little bumperettes. Ive searched and couldnt find it. my dad has the stock rear bumper from his tj just sitting in the garage and i wan to put it on my yj. Has anyone done this? I thought i read that it bolts right on. that would be great.
I just did this last week and posted about it. Too bad I couldn't get a rear TJ bumper like you did for free. I had to fork out $20 on Craigslist, but I guess I can't complain. The only trouble I had was that I had to remove the nuts holding the fuel tank skid and tank in place to access some of the nuts on the bumperettes. I agree that I like the TJ bumper way better than the bumperettes and I'm sure the TJ bumper will offer more protection should I get rear-ended!
I'll try to figure out how to post a picture of mine sometime this week.
Dan, Id like to see those pictures. i had the same problem with the gas tank. I definetly like the look better tho and the protection better too. Hopefully neither of us will need the protection.
does anyone have pictures of the replacement? i was hoping to do the same too, i found a guy w/ a bumper and i wanted to flushmount reverse lights into it.
that looks pretty good! i just got my friends old bumper for my yj, i need a place to mount those oval reverse lights so i'm cutting into the bumper and putting them there. thanks for the pic, it helps me to visualize what it'll look like
Check out what this guy did, TJ bumper with a notch cut out and slid his hi-lift inside. He has a couple of through bolts to hold it in place.
