The AllPar story on the new Wrangler diesel, discussed in this forum in this thread has been revised.

The last paragraph now reads the following:

We have now received two credible statements that the American (and presumably Canadian) Wrangler will not be diesel-powered for the foreseeable future, and that the announcement of a diesel Wrangler in the U.S. was misinterpreted.
As a buyer waiting for an Unlimited Rubicon Diesel I give this a big .

I guess we'll just have to wait and see until the 2011 model year is announced. Does anyone know when that is...June ish?

Jeep or the government or whoever is screwing this pooch better get their act together soon or they will lose my business. My next vehicle will be a turbo diesel. I've heard Land Rover is testing a new type of hybrid diesel in the states and if they start selling diesel Defenders here, I'm defecting to LR.

Yep. But they are renewing the whole defender platform for the 2013 model year (last I heard anyway, they keep pushing it back) and they will be adding stuff that will "probably" make it legal in the U.S.

Although, I also heard that Jeep would have a diesel option for the 2011 wrangler so...

this is just a swift kick in the balls for me...ive been around diesels my whole life and they are beautifull beasts! ive seen them run on generators for years only stoping for oil changes, run on tractors in the worst posible conditions such as mowing at 2,100 RPMs for 8-10 hrs a day every day of the week and run just like new! you cant beat a diesel! the advantages of diesels would out way the gas engines in our jeeps by a land slide!

but the diesels would get alot better MPG than our gassers now, but there has to come a time for the EPA when the MPG that diesels give must over come there slightly higher emmisions it gives off. 15mpg in our jeeps now compared to 25+ we could get with a diesel. just my :2c:

Thank California emmisions standards for the lack of diesel vehicles here in the states.

Clean air standards bog down US motors to a ridiculous degree causing them to use more fuel per mile and, you guessed it, produce more emissions.

Once again, bueraucracy > goal.
Preachin to the choir, brotha. The best thing that can happen to an automotive enthusiast would be if the the gubmint would just admit they dont know jack **** about vehicles and leave it to the market to dictate what gets built.

That 2.8L Diesel only makes 158hp

Diesel are slow accelerating then gas engines . . . so get the same performance as 170-190hp Gas engine the diesel would have turn out 250-275hp . . .

a 325hp diesel 3/4ton has the same 0-75mph as a 275hp gas 3/4ton.

Diesel is stronger but Gas is faster they showed this on TV Power bock's a dozen times over the years . . .

Its a Jeep, not a racecar..... We have flat windshields and don't care about 0-75 (well almost flat for those JK owners).

I want a diesel for:

1. LOW END TORQUE
2. Strength and reliability
3. Slightly better fuel economy
4. LOW END TORQUE

Tdi?

Has anyone seen this? I would love for jeep to put a diesel in something again preferably the wrangler. But for those of us needing a power plant rehab, we might have an off the shelf swap kit in the works to take matters into our own hands. This is kind of vague but maybe we can draw the attention of someone with some insider info to this thread? keen eyes will notice this is a YJ with metalcloak treatment and the EGR not even hooked up yet. Supposedly the stock sheet metal is not a problem, no word on if they will be able to make it legal for the TJ I doubt the JK but who knows. :rtft:

kind of an off topic question why did the wrangler's 2.5L get its power turned down ? . . .

I'm told the 86'MJ/XJ had 117hp & 135tq , the 87'-90' MJ/XJ had 121hp & 140tq the 91-93' 2.5 was 130hp & 150tq . . .

but i keep reading the Wranglers 2.5 was always detuned 15-25hp ? why is this ?
