I've got the 231 currently, and am wanting to spend as little money as possible on it, because I'll be upgrading into a 241 next year. Don't wanna piss away good money

I am trying to avoid the SYE, so what else can i do to help....hack in tap.

School me please. Info, installation, cost, brands or kits???

Thanks all. :tea:

A hack and tap is a different style of SYE but i still an SYE. They run about $100 and full sye kits are about $190 and are worth the extra bucks for the peace of mind plus it'll boost the sale price when you get rid of it for the 241.

Installing an SYE is easy as pie. Mine took about 3.5 hours and I had never done one before. I went with the kit from Crown Automotive and had a custom shaft built by drivetrain.com.

If you know how to measure, drill into steel straight, and understand how taps work then it's as easy as pie.

If you don't then get someone who does and have them help.

the biggest problem with hack and taps is that 95% of people don't understand the finer things that are critical with creating a good solid fastening platform..and since it involves high rpms, and mass of steel that makes you move.. it is a better choice for many to just get the full out SYE kit.

Pure PITA...... is all I have to say about a Hack N Tap. I get to fix and replace alot of them.

Hack-N-top shoulkd only be done for cars that dont offer better solutions to a SYE...Jeepers have no excuses especially with tom woods representing!!!!!

For a few bucks, you can get washers and longer bolts to lower your skid.

$100 for the hack-n-tap + $100 for a custom cut-down xj front cv driveshaft would be the 2nd cheapest option.

I just started a long arm install. Since I will not be wheelin' anytime soon, I am lowering my skid.

Maybe?
Hack-n-tap it to the 241 length and bolt on a flange that is the same as the stock 241 output.
Measure and get new driveshaft.
when you get the 241, your driveshaft should bolt right up and stay the same length.

Thanks guys for all the opinions. I just said to hell with it. I bought a belly up TT skid 7 months ago, and haven't gotten to install it yet. With fall wheeling trips coming up, I said to hell with it and just bought a SYE from Ocenne on the boards. Ordered it, and received it in via UPS 3 days later!~

I'll get around to installing it this next week probably.

Now all you need is adjustable LCA's, 1" BL and 1" MML.
