I ran a Thrush Chambered welded muffler on my Jeep SJ and liked the sound...

But I want something different on the ZJ.

Im getting a new Cat from NAPA, and they offer a catback complete system from like Dynomax or MAganflow...its affordable, but Im not sure if it sounds good.

Im thinking Flowmaster Series 44Delta would sound good...but maybe too loud.

Anyone tried the kit from NAPA?

What is everyone else running on a 5.2L ZJ?

Iv got a muffler delete with stock cat on my wj i have vids on my build thread and it is loud but sounds good IMO. But if you dont want it to loud I would recommend a flowmaster 70.

I ran dual flowmasters 40's on my 67 Tbird, but that was a BB Ford...they sounded really mellow, not loud at all. Then I hear them on a truck and they are obnoxious.

Ill probably end up going with a Thrush 17655 Welded 2 hamber muffler and a new tailpipe assembly, and the new cat...I know it wont be loud enough though.

summit racing has a full cat back exhaust kit for a ZJ V8, its a complete kit including tubing starting at the Y-pipe, and a welded turbo style flow through muffler, sounds great on mine and a noticeable power increase and they cost $179, mine was 199.77 shipped bolts right up with clamps, got em welded at a local shop for 30 bucks

okay, found it under a search for Grand Cherokee not Grand Wagoneer which is what Ive been using.

Does your exhaust exit out the back under the bumper, or out the pasenger side behind the rear tire?

I got under and looked at what Ive got and the pipes are all hacked on and welded..non factory muffler.

So im going to just order the magnaflow kit from napa, also order the cat. So at least if I dont like the muffler Ill have something I can work with easily.

So I dont know If you like loud or not but if you do and you want something that sounds good and is cheap. Just replace the muffler with pipe. yeah its loud but it sounds good. And its no louder than any of the hicks trucks running around with straight piped 350s.

Im not all about the noise and the loud, Im going that route on my vette.

TPiS longtubes into a 3" center pipe, into a split 3" rear Y pipe, into TPiS spec'd flowmaster dual outlet mufflers, supposedly Series 50's in custom cases.

Kolak Cat-Back

Magnaflow (Carsound) Hi-Flow Cat
Flowmaster 50 Series
Mandrel Bent 3" Tail Pipe
Stock 5.9L Tip

Best all around setup i've heard in my opinion and the fit and finish is worth every penny.

When I do mine, I'm planning to do the same setup as WJOverland, except with a Flowmaster 70 series (should sound about the same as a 50, but closer to stock in volume).

And why is it that in every exhaust clip, they sit there revving the piss out of a stone cold engine? They almost never do it warmed up, as indicated by the copious amounts of steam and water coming from the pipes.

The stock niner exhaust sounds pretty badass. I get disapproving looks from (mostly female) pedestrians all the time, and have gotten a few compliments while driving around with the windows open. That's why I'm going with the Flowmaster 70, it should be somewhat similar.

Louder can sound better, but doesn't always. It depends on the size of the engine and the cat/muffler/pipe setup.
