Introducing MONSTALINER™ UV Permanent DIY Roll On Bed Liner

Hi All,

We are a new advertiser on jeepforum.com and I just want to introduce myself, our company and a very interesting new product.

My name is Eric and I have 25+ years experience in coatings manufacturing.
Our company Magnet Paints, is focused on industrial maintenance and commercial fleet refinish coatings,
epoxy and urethane concrete floor coatings and automotive restoration paints.

We are also the manufacturers of Chassis Saver™ Rust Preventive Truck & Auto Underbody Coating.
Chassis Saver is a high performance alternate to POR-15 at 45% lower cost.

For the past 5 years, our lab has been developing and fine tuning a roll on bed liner product.
The product has evolved through 3 generations of testing, development and field trials and has just been
commercialized and is available for sale.

I have personally been involved with installations on more than 20 vehicles in the last 4 years in which
my feedback and experience alone was the determining factor that the product was complete and ready for release.

Monstaliner started as a pet project. One of our employees had used a widely popular DIY bed liner on his
personal truck and was not so pleased with the outcome. He came into work one day with a mission and
for almost a year, he kept badgering the chemists in our lab to develop a better product.

One day after getting tired of listening to this guy rant, we sat down and mapped out what a
new generation do-it-yourself bed liner would have to offer to be successful. A first, we just toyed with the
project but we knew that a much better product was possible compared to those already on the market.

So here we are, very proud to present:

MONSTALINER™ High Performance DIY Roll On Bed Liner

I don't want to write a book here so I will post the web site link for all who are curious to check this out on their own time.

As an introduction special and for the rest of this month at least,
we are offering free shipping on anything sold on the web site.

Just use Promo Code "FSBL-1" when ordering either online or by phone.

Everyone, anyone... please feel free to ask any questions. I am always available to help.

Best Regards
magnetman
Monstaliner do-it-yourself roll-on truck bed liner

PS: We are looking for dealers in markets involving Jeep, Truck, 4x4 and Off-Roading.
If anyone with a legit business either online or offline has interest, just get in touch and we can
work with you to make something happen.

I applied the 'touch up kit' this weekend and I'm MUCHO happy. The weather conditions were a LOT hotter and the texture is slightly different, but I'm still happy. You have to know where to look to see where it was.

Great little kit to fix those mess ups during installation. :)

The kit:

Container of liner
Small container of catalyst
textured sponge
textured roller

I ended up using the sponge. I pitched the roller from the install so that didn't help a whole lot. Should have kept it. Oh well. The sponge met my needs well and fit in the can nicely so I could dab it on.

Here's the item that needed patching. After sanding and before wiping with MEK:

About an inch and a half gash from when I used a straight edge to get up some sticky tape from the plastic lip guards I took off. For whatever reason, I didn't wipe down this area well enough or the cut was so clean, the paint that cut undercut by the edge didn't lift up. Well it lifted when I drove it after a week. Paint came off WITH the liner. Dangit.

As you can see, I scuffed it up a bit then cleaned it with MEK.

Then I applied to that area and a bit on either side to blend it better. Right after application:

After a few hours:

It was probably 98 degrees in my garage with high humidity so I'm sure this is curing quickly. But I'm still letting it sit a few days before driving it again. I went ahead and added a bit more along the rail after cleaning more to add some thickness to the driver side. Since I'm always hopping in and out while on the trails, I figured a bit thicker application there made some sense. But it came out REALLY nice.

I also found a chip from where I had a wooden deck cover installed during the jamboree. I don't think it was secured as tightly as I normally secure it so it had room to bounce and move.

I applied some patch to that area as well. I didn't think it'd come off, but that wooden deck got it. I've been rethinking my rear deck anyway, so I doubt it'll be going back on for this to happen again.

After the first coating on the driver side fender well.

That matched welll Paul. Get some more pics in a couple of weeks so we can see if the color changed a little after fully curing.

I looked at it a bit this morning and the color is blending VERY well so far. The new stuff is still a bit shinier and the older stuff could probably use another bath (it's been dusty lately), but I figure by the end of the week, we'll know.

I'll post up pics outside w/o the flash when I shoot them so you can get a good feel for any color variances.

I got the kit from Magnetman. :)

Herc, not THAT bad, but it will change pretty quickly. The worst part is that it will not even match to itself.

magnetman, i have an unrelated question
i seen on your website for monstaliner, that the name of the company is magnet paints and shellac co, inc... so i thought you might know the answer...
is shellac made from bug guts?
i know you're a busy man but i heard this about 25 years ago and have yet, been able to get this confirmed

#1,636 ·
This is called useless trivia and is quite interesting!

Real shellac is made from fly sh*t, not guts. It's called the LAC bug and the stuff is scraped off of trees where the flies defacate. There are synthetic shellacs today as well.

Chocolate, pretzels and other food products were frequently coated with shellac as a protective coating. Don't know if that is still done today so think about this next time you bite a Hershey bar or pretzel rod!

So, I bought the mosterliner and installed it. I bought the 1 gallon kit. It worked out really well and looks great. I decided to apply it by using a larger paint brush and didn't use the roller at all. So basically the only thing I used from the kit was the gallon of liner and the catalyst. The reason I am saying this is because I really want to get maybe an additional half gallon and do the rollbars, but I can't justify getting another one gallon kit since all I need is a half gallon or smaller amount.
I could go to autozone and buy a quart (or two) of herculiner but I don't want to use that sh*t, I like my monsterliner.

BTW, yes I will post up pics once i figure out how to do it.

#1,639 ·
Yes, you can order just a gallon and the pint of catalyst. It is on Monstaliner's site. I believe the promo chassis saver and free shipping applies to loose gallons, is that right MagnetMan?

#1,641 ·
The quart should work well. I packed away 1 quart of liner for later use. I am thinking I might want to spray it on eventually. I didn't do as good a job this time, and the texture varies some. The bed area look amazing though.

So now I am "his boy" It should be plenty to do the roll bars. I would only get a gallon if you were planning on doing the grill, rockers, bumpers, roll bar ect....

#1,644 ·
Haha yea you're his minion now. :teehee:

For real I'm just playin', I appreciate all the help you gave me via PM's when I was installing it. I swear to god it doesn't say anywhere on the forum that there is a lever you need to pull when removing the front seats.

Thanks I'll have to get a quart then. I totally forgot to put it on my entry guards too.. How do you place an order for a quart?

My advice to everyone out there would be to get the 2 gallon kit. Once I got going I realized I want to put this stuff on EVERYTHING. BTW that chassis saver is the ****.

LuckRider or MagnetMan,

I remember someone posted up about a roller they picked up at Lowes/Home Depot and would be good to use for the first coat. I am terrified that my foam rollers that I got from Magnet won't be enough to do my entire interior for 2 coats and want to use those only for the second coat. So where can I get a roller locally that will be good for the first coat??

Any advice before I start tomorrow? Thanks in advance!

if you look at luckrider's writeup and a few other posters as well, he makes a very good point. do the hard to reach areas(hard to reach with a roller) first real good and just roll the spots you didn't do with the brush. it saves rollers and everyone has said it covered better that way.

That would have been me. I did use it, and it gave pretty good texture. I got it at home depot. If you do use it, make sure you cut it round with a razor blade. My dad let it follow the shape of the roller (you know how they are rolled to form the shape). It worked well and I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. We did most of the tub and all of the corners with a brush first and saved the two rollers I had left for the second coat.

The best advice would be to get the real rollers... they are pretty cheap and work very well. Good luck with the project tomorrow. Take some pics. I am still running around with nothing. I have the two front seats in and the center console (gotta have the sub woofer ).

The brand is Performance Select and all it says is 1/4" Nap Adhesive roller. I just ran to the garage and looked at it. I posted the pic of it in this thread somewhere. I will see if I can find another pic.

Here it is:

Don't forget a couple of garbage brushes. You will want something that you can throw away.

#1,653 ·
Ok, so I ordered my bumpers and they will be ready here in a few weeks. Still planning coating them in Chassis Saver right now.

What's going to do if it takes a good lick from a rock? Or a rock slides across it? Is it come off in a sheet or chip? You had also said something about using a metal etching stuff for a primer. Would getting a 25 grit flap wheel to it to rough it up good suffice?

I plan on getting the jet black gallon to coat both bumpers.

#1,654 ·
I will let MagnetMan answer you fully, but I will say this. 1 Gallon would be a waste. 1 quart of chassis saver = 1 gallon of Monstaliner in terms of coverage. Heck... 1 gallon of Monstaliner would be a lot. You could probably do 1 pint and have plenty of coverage.

Be sure to no go too thick on each coat. If it is too thick, it will bubble. Do 3 or 4 coats. As for the 25 grit, that should be rough enough, but 60-80 grit is recommended in the directions. Chassis Saver IS NOT UV resistant so it will turn to a charcoal color over time.

#1,656 ·
That is what I would do. The instructions I am reading don't have information for topcoating, but it does say to sand with 400 grit if it has been 24 hours since last coat, and you must wait at least 3 hours since the previous coat.

The instructions also say that it has an abrasion resistance rating of 45in/lbs reverse impact, and 125in/lbs direct (whatever that means).
