I'm very interested in making a similar mod to my stock bumpers, but am looking for a bit of information...first off, what did you use to cut it?...second of all, what is the best option to use for painting?
last but not least, mounting a wench to the stock bumper.....what all would be needed to make this dream a reality?
Cut 8" off of each side..Modded the jugs, flipped them upside down and reinstalled. Moved the driving lights to the center section. Most people know that it is different, but don't know how..
Here's what I just completed with mine.
Cut them on a bandsaw. The ends are cut at 30 degree's.
Welded all the front holes solid.
Then I cut some pieces for end caps then welded.
The stinger is a solid bar.
Since there isn't many, here are some rear bumper pictures. A plug in for my trailer lights and end caps from a guy giving away a bumper. And of course gotta rep my "O"s
Hey thanks for posting that pic, I love the font end. I already found a hoop on craiglist, now on to hooks, and lights! I gotta straighten a bend in my bumper, anyone with reccomendations on how to do that?
You know, I really like the look and function of a simple, straight bumper, like Jeeps have always come with (until the JK with it's Tuppabumpies). I added the KC light bar and the rubber caps and some "bed liner" paint in a rattle can. I love it. I had a huge, heavy, massive, winch bumper installed but I have put my Rubie on a diet and the massive front and rear bumpers had to go. Going back to (modded) stock.
Did this to practice mig welding.
As we all do, I started with this.
Than the cutting
A little welding.
I wish I had taken a few more pics, but it was hot outside.
Here is the finished product.
.
1 of the factory welded nuts inside the tube cross member broke off when I removed the bumper. I had to learn the hard way how to weld it back in place, and not mess up the threads.
I used a YJ bumper. Little bit thicker metal than a TJ. Chopped, capped ends, raised winch plate.
