follow the maintenance logbook? I always, get my oil changed every 3k, but the big 24k is coming up and I think I'm gonna take it to the stealership and have them do the check list.
any thoughts?

I do all my own maintenance and repairs for the most part. No one touches my vehicles unless it is something that requires a special tool or something like that. I also use the maintenance logbook as a guideline instead of a schedule. Most items I do as they say. But some others, such a oil changes, I use my own schedule. I do changes at 5K instead of 3K.

Take it to the stealership with knowledge of what they are going to do beforehand. Some stealerships will not validate the warranty if the 24K or 30K servicing hasn't been done by a certified Mopar tech.

I'm with "Lurch77" about doing my own maintenance. I would get a Chilton to help you if you ever wanted to do it yourself. I enjoy the satisfaction of doing my own upkeep :D ! Doing so provides a great chance to get to know your Jeep and how to diagnose problems.
It's especially nice to have a little something something in the wallet  !

GoodLuck,

I love it where it states in my manual to change the oil every 7,500 miles. I change mine every 5k miles instead. Make your own schedule if you are performing the work yourself. I created my own on an Excel spreadsheet. Use the owner's manual as a guideline. But creating your own also lets you insert important information such as: torque settings and replacement part numbers. It's a living document meaning that you can always insert columns and rows for any thing that you might wan to add.

OK now for a stupid question: what does this :rtft: Smiley mean? I am guessing that rt=read the, but I am clueless about the next two letters.

7500 is actually reasonable for vehicles that are not used hard. Such as a highway commuter. The 3000 mile thing was a combination of the old oil and car technology in the old days, along with marketing. More oil changes means more money for oil companies and those who do the changes for people. Todays modern, efficient vehicles, combined with better oil technology, cars can go a long time under normal situations.

Of course most of us that use this site are not "normal'. :D We virtually beat the snot out of our vehicles in the mud, rocks, and other off road situations, as well as towing and such.
