So I'm trying to buy what I thought was an 86 CJ7 but the owner called me today and said its an 87, it looks JUST like any Cj7 would including front clip and everything.

did they run out all the CJ7 parts after Chrysler bought AMC out? This thing looks JUST like a CJ down to the dash and everything but has fuel injection, even has the AMC 20 rear diff.

Can someone clue me in on this oddity?

This thing doesnt have the 2.5 front leafs, it also has the CJ dash, but like I said it does have fuel injection.

I'm wondering why It would have so many CJ parts on it, it does look like it has runningboards like an 87 YJ would have, but if they put a Yj tub on, why would it have the CJ dash?

OK, I found what I was looking for... look for the 10th letter...

10th B = 1981
C = 1982
D = 1983
E = 1984
F = 1985
G = 1986 Year

In theory, yours would have an "H".

Something like this...

I believe 1982 was the first year of the WT's. Also, a LATE built '86 model would have had the Dana 44 rear axle in it instead of the AMC20.

My guess is he put a later model YJ motor in it that has FI, but the jeep is still an 83

My first thought is it's a little high on the price.
Looks like a very cheap paint job..... They painted over everything.
Body damage on the rear corners, Hard top patched, Missing parts and you better hope it passes smog..... By the way, The seller is responsible for the smog check in the state of CA...... It's the law.
But hey, It comes with a free bottle opener :laugh:

well its currently registered, no fees are owed on it, and it passed smog as of last september,

a little body dent doesnt worry me. I'm going to be using it for offroad, I even offered to sell him back those rims that are on it as I do not believe in rims on an offroad vehicle that will just get scratched

I can repaint the thing, I painted my cj5 in my front yard lol

and it comes with 2 bottle openers if you look close, one on each side, so you AND your passenger can open your beers while you air down ;p

Looks like he swapped on YJ front fenders and then put the YJ flares & side steps on it which added to your/his confusion.
