Hey all, I'm from Colstrip, Mt. It's just inside southeastern Mt, but I've been all around Wy more than I've been in Mt. Which isn't saying much, LOL. Anyhow, I was wondering if you folks know about the Morrison Jeep Trail in the Beartooth Mtns? It runs from Clark, Wy north to Hiway 212, (Red Lodge Mt to Cooke City, Mt.) but it's entirely in Wyoming. On your map, look for Clark just north of Cody and west more or less from Powell. It's about as off road as anything I've seen in Wyoming. A little farther north into Mt is the Benbow Jeep Road in the Beartooths on the north face of the range. Look for it south of Big Timber on I90. I haven't been there yet, but I want to get there this summer. I'll ride it first on my King Quad 700. There are some good trails in the Pryors, too. The Pryors are in Mt south west of Billings and north of Lovell, Wy. Bear Creek road, up to the top, then down the Lost Water Canyon road (if it hasn't been closed). In any case, call ahead to the particular Forest Service office to see if these roads are open before you get there. Especially the Morrison. Expect a single two track trail up switch backs till you get to the top. Then it's across boulder fields to highway 212. These boulders aren't totally exposed, but enough that most stock Jeeps will drag their undersides here and there. Rubis should do fine. Two summers ago, it took me and my son 9 hours to go up and back, a 60 mile or so round trip ride on our atvs. We never stopped for more than 15 or 20 minutes along the trail at any time.
While my son was going to WyoTech in Laramie, he took his YJ through lots of trails around there, but I can't name any. But he was always going for a ride somewhere, so you guys down there have a lot to choose from, it seems to me. Everywhere you go in Laramie, there are pickups pulling sleds and or atvs. There are a lot of lifted 4x4s there, too. So that tells me there are a lot of places to play around there.
Good luck and maybe I'll see you on the trails.
The 7th Son.
On edit: I did manage to get back to Laramie once this summer. We rode our ATVs out of Albany Lodge just west of Laramie. So many trails and Foest Sevice roads... so little time. We also did the same on the Benbow Jeep Trail. If I can only go two places next summer, those trails will be the places. Lots of riding, nice folks, either place.
