Hello all. I’ve been working on this jeep for a while, so I figure its time to start a build thread for it. I’ve always wanted a Scrambler but never could find one at a decent price. Back in Dec ‘08 I found this jeep on craigslist. It was somebody’s project that was never going to be put back together. The previous owner was just going to replace the floor pans and it went from there. Four years later, it was still sitting in pieces in his backyard. Bought it with no motor, trans or transfer case but a whole lot of spare parts.

The jeep:
1982 CJ 7 that’s been stretched
Dana 30 front
Model 20 rear
4” susp. lift
Lift shackles
33” all terrains

The plan:
Chevy 350 V8
Auto tranny
Atlas transfer case
Body armor
37 - 40” tires
Dana 44 or 60 front
Dana 60 rear

Its being built so I don’t have to beat up my LJ on the more extreme trails. Hopefully it will be drivable by the spring of 2010. The dana axles will probably come after the factory axles break.

Now onto the pics!

The other day at work we had to go to a trailer store and pick up a light for one of the guys. Walked around and found some smokin deals on some new trailers, but still a little more than I want to spend on a trailer that will only be used a few times a year. Also found two used 25' goosenecks. I think I'm going to go back and see what kind of deal I can work on the black one.

You have to change the hubs to SRW hubs and change the rotors or drill out the old ones. I believe the later models have the spacer in them. Cheapest set Ive found was like $230 a piece new. There is an older article on pirate that says you can get them for $185 from six states distributors, but their website doesnt show prices.

Running H1 wheels has some perks - cheap beadlocks and they protect the locking hub. They have a 7" backspacing so it will bring the overall width down some. Found this jeep on pirate with the same set up (H1 wheels, dually front and spacers in the rear).

Worked on outboarding the springs over the last two days. Have to go to work tomorrow, hopefully Fri I'll get everything welded up

YJ springs

Cut the rear hanger off

Removed front hanger and the rivet

Used some 1/4" plate that I had layin around to make the brackets

Making the front brackets

New 2.5" hangers

Going to add some gussets when they are welded up

Went ahead and drilled a 1/2" hole to eventually tie in the winch plate

Rear brackets

They will look like this when welded to the frame, but with one more gusset

Just read the whole thread, and had to crawl it. Reminds me a lot of my fathers old CJ built up, though yours has a lot more beef. Im in love with it. Keep up the good work I cannot wait to see it finished up
Thanks for the compliments
