Im trying to get some spray on Liner....maybe Herculiner, for the rocker panels on my jeep. I want to spray the bottom half of my WJ. I was wondering where to buy the "Spray on" at a local hardware store or such. Also I was wondering what spray gun to use and also where to get one of those. Thanks
You don't need a spray gun, it comes in an aerosol can like spray paint. Something like $7 a can. Drys in about 10 min, has a fairly smooth finish and hasn't chipped yet. I'll try to a pic up soon...
I've gone through 2 1/2 cans to do the cladding and front bumper, still have to do the back one. I just took them off, degreased, sanded with 100 grit and sprayed the whole piece.
I cant remember exactly how much it took to do both sides, something like 1 1/2 cans, thats doing 3 coats on each piece.
Prep wise, I just used Simple Green to degrease, then sanded with 100 grit, rinsed and let dry, and then started spraying with about 15 minutes between coats and left to dry overnight before reinstalling. I didn't use any primer, seems like most people here haven't had to use it.
I still have to do the rocker panels, planning on that this weekend...
There is also one called Herculiner from Tractor Supply Company and I think I saw at Wal Mart. Not spray on but I just wanted to make you aware of another brand.
I think its duplicolor that makes one in a gallon can that comes with a pickup and hose and all you need is an air compressor. It gives you closer the the ARMA or Line-X look. Thicker and rough to the touch.
The Herculiner can be put into a regular paint spray gun, I just don't know the nozzle size. That is what the PO of my truck did for the rockers. Also, Herculiner isn't very durable. Mine has worn on the rockers and chipped in the bed. I haven't used the Duplicolor yet but it'll probably be better.
