just thought it would be a neat idea if someone could start a thread with only pics and info on home mods. write-ups wouldn't have to be included but a link to one would be nice if it is available. if someone likes the idea, start it up!

made a hitch to tow my 4x8 trailer with my 4 wheeler on it since the bumper on teh jeep didn't have a hitch, and it drops too low to put a reese on it, works great, and that is not just a flat plate, it is 2 plates (one in the back of the bumper) that are welded, and then it has 2 grade 8 1/2" bolts with aircraft nuts, and tthe plate is welded to the bumper in bottom and back, its not going anywhere:

also made some sway bar discos with some clevis pins from lowe's Total cost: $7

made something to cover the gap where my bumper is out of aluminum diamond plate

I will try to find more pics, I never did a write up. I used Kicker 8" Comp "Free Air" subs. They are rated for marine use, so I don't worry about them getting wet. They perform well without being in an enclosure, they just need to be in separate air spaces from front to back. I cut 8" holes in the fender wells, made 1/4" thick aluminum plates to reinforce the sheet metal, bolted & siliconed them on. Then stuffed the fender with polyfill to improve the sound. put the carpeting back in place, and bolted the subs in using security screws. Somebody already mashed up a couple screws trying to steal them when I had the top off, but they had no luck

I ran the wires under the lip where the other wires already are, then drilled a small hole and used a gromet to connect them down into the fender well.

think that answers most of your initial questions, but if I can find or take some photos I'm sure it'll help you visualize

how about the amper box.. deminsions and how it was bolted down

I don't have dimensions, I made a cardboard dummy just big enough to fit my amp and follow the lines of the fenderwells. In the first photo of it upside down, you can see the flanges that bolt down under the seat brackets. cut a couple large holes and used 12V computer fans for ventilation. Carpeted to match and it disappears nicely.

Updated to my previous third brake light- I made a _____ for my TJ! (post your homemade Jeep stuff here) - Page 22

Made a new third brake light holder to accomodate CB antennas and create a stronger mount. The previous unit vibrated too much for my liking when the antenna hit stuff.

Finished and Sandblasted:

Welds :D

Primed and painted semi-gloss black and installed. Holds 2 3ft CB antennas. Those are cheapo "Diesel" antennas I got on ebay. The brake light should clear a 35" tire easy.

And no, the mounts aren't straight. The small 1/4" top plates warped during welding. And no I don't care and I probably won't fix it...

EDIT:
I had to add one of the stock rubber isolators to the mount to keep the tire carrier from whacking it. I just drilled a hole in the center square tubing and tacked a nut on it. Its a stainless M8 socket head cap screw in the isolator. Just what I had laying around. I found out the tire carrier was vibrating quite a bit off-road - this amounted to nearly 1" of deflection!

brake light bracket looks good:thumbsup:..its a jeep,if ya use it who wants perfect anyhow, haha
if my old trucker mind remembers right,,if you have both antennas hooked up your radio wont work worth a crap compared to 1 antenna? unless there much farther apart..i think im right on this if memory serves me right.
but 1 can always be a spare:cheers2:

they'll eventually be hooked to two different radios. A Cobra 75WXST and a Uniden BCT7. Right now the antennas aren't working at all...apparently I painted it too good, its not grounding!!:rofl: I gotta wait till X-mas when I go home so I can get my SWR meter too.

More pics please........
maybe click the link in his sig?

In my past posts about my aluminum rockers you all asked for pics. well here they are minis the angle iron on bottom.4x4x1/4 aluminum angle ,raps under tub for more protection.Aluminum triangles will be welded to aluminum angle so angle iron can be bolted to the main rocker unit.In side the cab their will be another 1/4''aluminum plate to sandwitch the tub between them. Thats a 1/2'' thick rocker .3/8th ss button head bolts will put it all togeather.http://img383.imageshack.us/i/picture006v.jpg/

Kolpin Fuel Cells on the tire carrier..

have welder and too hot to go wheeling.. this was the result..

Start with one stock 4wd tire carrier..

Cut up an old metal work bench for the tubes and weld on with no regard to angles. (note the upturned foot on the left one)

Add some diagnal arms that will mount the cell mounts from Kolpin

Tack the whole thing up and make sure they fit..

Finish the welds..

Spray with bed liner..

Remount the hardware..

slap on the spare tire and call it a day..

From behind you cannot even see them.

Side view.. less chance of them getting damaged if i get rear ended up above the tub.

Cost.. fuel cans 1.5 gallon from Kolpin $20 each
Mounts $16 each
Scrap hardware from the yard.. lets say 20 bucks if i had to go buy it..

So under a hundred bucks to haul around 3 gallons for gas when going on a long trip.. that and then $100 on dinner for wife after spending the whole day in the garage again.. :tea:

my jeep bumper didn't come with a hitch, and the bumper design wont allow that low of a drop for a hitch, so I made my own with a 1/4" plate steel in a L shape design, its bolted through he bumper with 2 grade 8 1/2"x5" bolts and welder on all parts that touch the bumper, its not going anywhere :)

My T-Case shifting linkage bent and came completely out while on the trail a while back. So I rigged up some Spherical Rod Ends on a 1/2 in threaded rod, dremelled out the existing wholes on the linkage mounts and attached it all with 1/2 in hex bolts. It ain't bending no more. Plus it feels ten times better when shifting into 4wLo.

Great idea for the windows. Just a suggestion, if you put both velcro tabs on your door panel you wouldn't have to have a velcro tab on the outside of your window.

Gives you a cleaner look when the window are up.

Also, you could screw some hood tie downs to your panel and use the velcro loop straps from your the factory tire iron to secure the window. Would give it a more "built in" look.

Just got me thinking.

you have to have 50 posts first, then use a photo hosting source like photobucket.

Gave the handle, on the inside drivers side door, a good tug last weekend and it broke off in my hand.:brickwall So i decided to replace it. Drilled out the nub that was left, emptied out a 30-30 round, drilled out blasting cap (warning if you do this, make sure that the firing cap has been spent before drilling :brickwall Don't worry i followed my own advice.) slip wood screw about half-way through. (Had to grind part of the head down so that it would fit.) Used some gorilla glue and wallah it works like a charm. :2thumbsup:
