1st Time Public Event!

2009 Great Plains International Jeepers Rendezvous.

It is scheduled for August the 2nd - Noon to 4pm at the International Peace Gardens on the North Dakota / Manitoba Border. Hosted by the Westman Jeep Association of Manitoba Canada.

The main purpose of the event is to bring together Jeepers from all over the Great Plains area of North America for an afternoon of living the brand, showing it to the public and making new friendships with other Jeep fans from a wide range of locations. The main event will be a stationary Jeep show in which all attendees can participate with their Jeep. 1941 - present, all models welcome and encouraged! An informal Jeepers Swap Meet will also be take place during the show (Private individuals only, no merchants or vendors at this time) for those wishing to sell, trade or swap "Jeep stuff".

Secondary events not associated with the GPIJR include the 30th Annual Antique, Classic and Custom Car show (also international), Live music from Highway 43 Band (70's, Eagles, and civil war music), and assorted artisans around the park area. A Sunday Brunch also takes place from 11am - 2pm.

The gate fees at the Park will be waived for all Jeepers participating in the GPIJR show, otherwise the regular entry fee will apply.

This will be a Keep It Simple event concept for this first go around until we see how it takes shape and develop future event "extras". So, pack a lunch, or get ready for a campout (camping is available on site or in the immediate area) and join us for an afternoon of Jeep talk, tall tales, and doing the Jeep Thing!

Potential for a scenic evening trail ride (on the Canadian side of the border) exists and will be determined by turnout and interest. Details of this portion of the event are still under coordination with local authorities re: access and travel routes.

Bring out the Jeeps and help us make this a successfull annual event for Jeepers on the Great Plains of North America!

US Attendees: If you plan to attend the trail ride be sure to have all your ID and neccessary border crossing papers in order for processing.

Sounds interesting. I'm posting so I can keep informed on this. Maybe I can make it. I think my wife would enjoy the peace gardens and I would enjoy the trail ride.

The Peace Gardens are a large Park, if she likes flowers there is tons to see spread out across the acresin different groupings and arrangements. There is also the Game Wardens Museum, the 911 Memorial and other on site exhibits and displays. Looking forward to meeting you both.

Yeah, I've been there before but I'll bet its been 20 years. So I'm sure its changed. Did I read it correctly that there is a place to wheel up there as well?

#5 ·
Yes you sure did. The wheeling is on the Canadian side and will require crossing the border. We will be holding a trail ride after the main event. Be sure to have your ID with you. See below, I have been advised to pass on some further information.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Some additional information that attendees need to know and follow...

Swap Meet recommendations:

If you are bringing items for the swap meet aspect of the show, please be advised that Canada and US Customs have requested that you put together and drop off an inventory of your items to include the following information at your respective Customs House BEFORE you enter the Peace Gardens event;

1) Item,
2) Place of Origin (your local city town &c and country),
3) Declared Value, expected sale price or, non value - trade
4) Your name, address, phone number, email

You should also provide a reciept of sale or trade when swapping an item so the returing Jeeper has all the required claim information to re-enter his/her country. Customs Claims Vouchers will be made up and provided by the WJA to cover this requirement and can be picked up at the WJA club display booth.

Border crossing advisory:

The International Peace Gardens straddle the US/Canada border and as such you are required to show ID when returning to your Country of Origin.

Returning or Entering Canada - Drivers Licence and/or Birth certificate ID

Returning or Entering the USA - Passport ID ONLY for ALL persons including US Citizens. US Customs is a stickler on this one and made it a point to specify this be made known to all US event attendees.

Other advisories:

Trail Run - all vehicles MUST have front and rear recovery points. Recovery straps, other recovery gear, first aid kits and fire extinguishers are also highly recommended. No loud exhaust systems, no fluid leaks, no alcohol. Waivers required to be completed by all non club Members attending the trail run. Vehicle Inspections may be conducted at the descretion of the Trail Boss and Guides. Though this is not a tough trail, it is still a trail in which weather conditions can change the rating in matter of minutes.

Questions or concerns? Post them here.

Well guys I hate to say it but I won't be able to make it. Its going to take about 4-6 weeks to get a passport for me and my family and I haven't even started the process yet. Hopefully it will turn out well enough though that you can do it again next August. I would like to go.

awww that sucks! We were looking forward to meeting you.

Tell ya what, when you get your passports in order and you feel like a bit of a change of scenery, let me know. I'll meet you at the border and show you around some of our trails.

Hey that sounds great. I'm not sure when I will get my passport taken care of though. I'm pretty busy right now so that hasn't been a priority. But I would like to get one so I can get up to Canada again. My wife and I spent a week in the Canadian Rockies about 5 years ago and loved it up there. Granted there aren't much for mountains up there by the Peace Gardens but I would enjoy meeting you and hitting the trails up there too.
