Hey everyone! I am looking into buying a Jeep but I drive 100 miles a day 365 days a year. I was going to buy a 06 Wrangler but the Patriot is DAMN SEXY! It also gets much better gas mileage. Now I am torn between the two! The Wrangler has the option of a removable roof and doors but the patriot gets good MPG and looks so sexy doing it. This will be very hard for me. I do like the the removable doors because it will make my job easier but is it worth loosing the extra MPG? I also love the fact they both come in a manual which is what I will buy no matter what I choose.
I bought my Patriot 2 months ago yesterday and I love it! It rides really smooth and handles very well. I've got the CVT automatic in mine. Like you, I'm in the northern part of the country and the winters get really cold and windy. If you get a PAT, I think you'll be very glad you have those solid non-removable doors when it gets cold and windy!
Forgot to add that I'm getting about 26 MPG - Highway when I use 6th gear in the AutoStick.
Thanks! I am leaning towards the Patriot. I like the fact that its a four door. The best part to me is the fact that its a 4x4 4cyl and I can get it in a 5 speed. I have a car that gets close to 40mpg right now but it gets stuck in the snow a lot. The roads I travel for work are the last roads to be plowed and some of them never get plowed so 4wd is important to me now.
Snow? We don't care 'bout no stinkin' snow! I haven't meet a snow mine can't handle. Me too on the back roads to work, last plowed if ever. You'll love it! My favorite pic, been threw worse but didn't have the camera. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/showpost.php?p=3306316&postcount=41
Cool I am excited to be getting another Jeep. I had a 94 Cherokee but it was a 4.0 and the transfer case was shot. I will be driving a 92 Nissan 240sx during the summer months and on days with no snow but the Patriot or wrangler (most likely the Patriot) Will be what I take in the snow. I will also want to take it to Badlands In Indiana once or twice a year when I can get the 2 inch lift and some bfg mud terrain tires on it. I'm sure I will love the Patriot I hope to bring home a 2008 Limited in the next week or two.
Go for the Patriot. I have a 4x4 manual and use it as my ski car. In the winter, I'm all over northern New England and the Patriot has not failed me. I have driven it on some very sketchy, unplowed and icy roads and it delivers. Aside from the four wheel drive, the electronic stability program has saved me from all sorts of skids. I have great confidence in the Patriot. In my opinion, the manual is the only way to go. It helps a lot in manevering in snow too. Best MPG I've had is 26 though but I have bad driving habits (trying to beat other powder hounds to first chair) and my drive is mostly uphill.
Can anyone here answer this for me? http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=804416 I have had 18 views but no one will answer it. This is my deciding factor on buying either a Patriot or a Wrangler. I would like to thank everyone for all the help so far. Without all the help I would be lost and probably get screwed into a vehicle at the dealer that I didn't really want.
polished_heckle's is an FD II set up very nicely with a lift and some really decent tires. He can give you more details on his. Tires seem a priority for most, the rest depends on how much fun you want to have.
I've driven my Patriot (FD I, manual 5-speed, 4x4) on snow higher than that and it can handle it. Patriots rock!
