And here's the grand daddy project of the last few weeks (month?)
Reason for build: needed something beefier then stock to carry extra stuff that can't fit inside the jeep, such as jerry can for jeep and chainsaw, tire chains, winch cable extension etc etc ... it's all gonna hang off of there
TODO: Get full size spare
-It's got 3/4" by 2.5" by 4.5" d-ring tabs, meaning they go through the bumper and are welded from front and back
-3rd brake light in center hub of spare
- safety pin in case the latch breaks (two pieces of pipe, one on carrier, one on bumper with a rod that passes through and locks them in, in case the latch gives way)
- 2"x4" steel construction (3/16" thick) and boxed in with 1/4" plate on sides.
- 6 1/2" grade 8 bolts as mounting hardware
- Por 15 semi-gloss paint
- hinge made from 1" welded from bottom and top, with 2000lb trailer bearings. it sits inside 2.5" DOM tubing, spaced by 2.5"OD DOM tubing. Works well for now, very little play and VERY smooth to open and close. On the bottom there are two axle seals to hold in grease that's going to want to seep out on those hot summer days
As you can see by the ceran wrap, still waiting for the cap
Still need to do a bolt-on carrier for the jerry can. Not sure if i want it on the left or right side though. Definitely not both, don't need that much fuel and weight.
here's a few before paint and grinding:
