At what point do you say to your self, "Self, You should probably get a set of discos before you do that." I mean are they more for rock climbing or is it something to consider for any kind of off roading. I want to be safe. And definatly don't want to be stuck any where, But I also dont want to make an unnessasary purchace. Any specifics would be apperciated

I did this to mine for about $10 and it works great. Seams to have a little slack though and makes klunking noizes on heavy bumbs when connected. I tried the next size up and it wouldnt fit so I'm living with it. The bolts on cherokees must be a little bigger than wranglers.

That's pretty good stuff right there!:2thumbsup:Never would have thought about doing something like that. Still I wonder do I need to disconnect? Could I break stuff if don't. Most of what I get into is mud holes on trails. It seems like the biggest reason to do so is to keep the wheels on the ground on a very uneven surface (i.e big rocks.) But wouldn't the travel of my shocks limit the amount of articulation I could get

you will not break stuff by not disconnecting, yes your shocks my limit your downwar travel when disconnected, usually not a problem at crawling speeds, yes this more advantageous for rock crawling than for fire road mud hole driving.

there are more important things to consider before discos, such as good recovery gear and recovery points on the front and back of your rig.

yes the shock will but you want to shock to keep you from going to far. If you have to long of shocks like my buddys tj you will end up over flexing and the spring will fall out. this is a bad thing you don't want to have to go though this off road with only a highlift, a ratchet straps and a stock tire iron. we got it in but lets just say it was a little scary on uneven ground and the highlift slowly working its way off the bumper.

Actually I only knew about the front diff breather line. that one runs up under the air cleaner box. where are the other ones? As far as recovery goes I have hooks under the front bumper, and a trailer hitch is coming soon. Custom bumper w/ winch mount in the distant future.

I have not done this myself either, but i try to avoid going through the deep stuff.. I can't afford to replace my parts prematurely... Just chase them down & you will find them, plus there is tons of info found using search, one for the tranny in the facts area if I remember correctly? Actually I found it for you... WJ only???
