Just got back from my first day of boarding this season in Tahoe, and Holy CRAP was the snow freakin awesome! :2thumbsup: We went to Sierra and it was far from packed, and there was fresh powder everywhere. I got stuck in it at one point and burned up all my energy digging myself out which SUCKED, but other than that it was awesome. Towards the end of the day lots of folks left and the runs were scarce, you could pick a line and just bomb down the mountain. They even let a couple lifts run four an additional 45 minutes or so. We were going to go to Kirkwood but the entire backside was closed along with a few lifts, so we opted to stay closer and hit up Sierra. But Kirkwood got over 2' of fresh powder these past couple days.
Anyway, I'm just stoked about an epic day of boarding, and thought others might like to know that the snow is incredible up there right now
Yeah I went last week on Wednesday and it was awesome. They had about 2-3' of fresh powder that was light as a feather. I went to Sugar Bowl though. There was NO ONE there either. I think I'm heading up Friday with some people to Sugar Bowl again.
I thought it'd take me a lot longer to get in my groove, but afterr a few runs down I had it pretty much down. I've only been boarding for a few years and haven't had the chance to board in fresh powder, it sure makes falling a lot more tolerable
I can't wait to go up again, might head up Thursday night. Really makes me miss living up there though
I tried to get a picture of the light snow that was coming down when I was heading up the lift but my phone died And none of us carry digital cameras :teehee:
ahh a buddy of mine moved to truckee this season and works at northstar. he calls me every time they get snow just to rub it in.
he does that because my season ended a few weeks ago due to an injury that i had to get surgery for. might be able to get back for spring but for now, for this amazing storm system we've been getting, i'm out.
Ha dude I found out my neighbor who moved to Meyers for the winter broke his hip on Tuesday at kirkwood, I almost went there instead of Sierra, I probably would have seen him there if we did go to the wood.
Another friend of mine collapsed his lung
'Nother broke his wrist....
I think everyone is so stoked about the fresh snow we've got they're going a bit crazy
I almost busted my head open on a box on Tuesday. I hit it at a weird angle and knew it as soon as I hit it, when I fell I came damn close to hitting my head on the edge of the box. I've already had a few concussions (sp) and fractured my skull twice (not from boarding though), I don't think I want to do that again
Yea I got knocked out once like 5 years ago so I got a helmet. I felt way more confident as soon as I had it and it's saved me quite a few times. I even cracked one haha
After last year I decided I needed a helmet for this season (didn't have one last week, but the snow was pretty soft), I'll be getting one before the end of the season though.
I flat out destroyed a helmet in 8th grade when I crashed my go-ped... Tried to jump up this ledge, didn't pull up high enough, next thing I know I wake up in the middle of the street, vision was all blurry and all I could hear was my dad's voice. Spent 3 days in the ICU for that one :teehee:
haha. i cracked my helmet on a rail snowboarding. trying frontboards when i probably shouldnt have, and yea..leaned too much i guess. head came straight on the rail. if it wasnt for my helmet, it would have been my head that cracked haha.
