Im 6'3" and my cj5 is tight. I cut down my seat brackets to solve the prob I had with my head rubbing on my soft top...Im thinking about cutting into my fender wells to make more leg room. If you have done this let me know how it worked out for you. also if you have any other suggestions, lets hear em.

Either have mounting rails made to allow for the seat to go ALL the way back to the step in the tub or sell it and buy a CJ7. Since that will only buy you two more inches, you should just have rails with mounting tabs made for under both seats and forget ever having a rear seat.
I notched my wheelwell. I'm 6'1" and run a pair of tall buckets out of an 03 Rubicon. I probably removed about 3-4 inches of the inner corner of the wheelwell.. sort of a "pocket" for the seat to fit in. One of the best mods I've done to my CJ5. I also replaced the stock steering wheel with a smaller Grant.... so it don't rub on mah belly.
If you've got alot of time, you can do what my son and I did to my '71. It started with no leg room and I swapped in a TH350 tranny so he decided to move the rear axel back 4". We cut the spring purches off and re welded them back to the end of the frame.
Next came the tub, he cut 4" out of the side of the tub rear where the corner starts and cut in front of the wheel well and removed the side of the tub. Next, we moved the side back to meet the rear of the tub and started welding it back on (save the 4" piece for a fill in on the top rail ahead of the wheel well). All that's left on the side is to fill in sheet metal ahead of the well near the door.
The inside wheel tubs were shortened 4" and welded back together next giving me all the leg room I need. It came out great, with a little filler, you won't be able to tell, just wonder what's different!
Thanks for the ideas, Hopefully I will be cutting into it next week...I did put a smaller steering wheel in.. but it slanted out so I had to flip it inwards. Looks funny but works for now. Im looking for a telescoping tilt column for it. I can get ahold of one out of an cady eldorado for about 50 bucks. im not sure if ill be able to make it work...But im going to try before I pay the guy for it...
Me being 6,4 and at one time having a Cj5, I would go find a Cj7. I still made some seat rails that slide as far back to the wheelwell as it can. I also have steelhorse seats that sit lower. Good luck.
Any advice on the seats, mounts and rails? I have a 1975 CJ5 (with the pass side tool box) and the original owner put the fixed solid plastic racing seats in.....does anyone know a good brand seats with sliders and mounts ( I would like to have a slider on the pass side so my son can get in the back) or am I just going to have to have something custom fabbed ? I am tired of having all the fillings shook of of my teeth!!!
