I used Krylon Fusion. Cleaned the hardtop. Acetone and then a tack cloth. Took three cans and it looks almost like my wife's hardtop for her JK. Used a satin finish if I remember right.

Yeah, light coats. I definitely took my time and didn't rush it. Bought one of those trigger sprayers for the spray can and spent the day in the paint booth (garage).

If memory serves me,

I cleaned the hardtop and dried it real well.
Lightly sanded it with a scotch brite pad. It was a brown one from AutoZone in their paint department.
Blew the dust off with my air compressor.
Let it sit for a while in the garage to settle and dust.
Used a tack cloth (AutoZone as well) all over it.
Masked the glass with green tape and newspaper.
Used a second tack cloth where my hands may have touched the hard top.
Started spraying the top and and then sides like you would with a paint gun.
Lots of strokes releasing the trigger while still using a spraying motion. (Followed the instructions on the can regarding drying times.)
Repeated until I went through three cans of Krylon.

Take your time and be sure to prep.

If you do a search of the forum, goatboy had a write up that talked about painting a hardtop. I used most of his write up for painting my hardtop. My hardtop didn't require any fiberglass repair which probably saved me.
