welcome to Vegas. do a search on the boards here for vegas trails, or vegas valley. there is a lot to do out here.

and just so you know, it is illegal to actually wheel inside the Valley itself, due to dust concerns, ar at least that's the excuse they give. (you can go Nellis Dunes however and play out there....it's out by the Air Force Base...go wheelin' and watch your USAF planes kick some A).

there are several groups here to look at

if you like the easier stuff/ trails that go somewhere, scenery, Nevada backroaders. this is the club to which I belong, and there's usually always someone able to go out with you. Always willing and able to help you out in a stuck. Biggest club in the state.

www.nevadabackroaders.com

if you have a money tree, like the harder stuff and think breaking your crap everytime you go wheeling is one of the simple pleasures of life, Total Karnage.

www.totalkarnage.net

if you like a mixture of the two, Vegas Valley 4 Wheelers......all have websites www.vv4w.org
Vegas Valley is more of the harder core/ rockcrawling group (TK just goes out to beat their rigs cuz they can), but they appreciate the scenic stuff, too. there are a lot of members that belong to all 3.

there's another one called Jeep Thrills that's setup via the meetup.com website...yeah, avoid them. their reputation is not the best.

www.sincity4x4.org is a board to get on too.

ive been there a couple times. idk if it was where i was or what but it was pretty boring and i mean i was by myself so i wasnt trying to do anything crazy. a lot of scary hills and most of its sand which im not to fond of with my fat a$$ jeep lol. give me a call when you head out there. i live on nellis so its like 2 seconds away.

there a couple of good trails out in the apex area you just need to know where they are

you have ram canyon upper ram (you will smash in the side of your jeep on upper ram)
no name canyon (not full size freindly) upper noname (not to bad just one sick or kinda nasty water fall)
and beyond (it will work you suspention in the rocks and you should have 2 lockers for that)
those trail are at least a 3 rated trails (scale is 1-5)

SolarJeep has the right idea. Vegas is perfect for wheeling, since in the summer you can escape the heat by going to the higher elevations, and winter in the lower elevations.

I just got done doing Packsaddle Loop from Chloride, AZ, which is a drive from Vegas to get to, but you can do the whole trail starting in Boulder City at 9 and being done by 3 with a long lunch and still have a decent amount of gas left. you get up into some elevation and the first part kicks butt (for those that rock crawl, they won't like it).

Mt Charleston area.....okay, it's a relatively significant drive to Cold Creek to get to Wheeler Pass. There are a TON of Forest Service roads out there to explore....some that don't go anywhere, some that crisscross, and you may find a few blue sky hills. It's fun and you may find a few wild horses.

Wheeler Pass is a fun trail, but if you want a REALLY long day, coming back through Rocky Gap will do it.

one that I find fun to drive for a great afternoon is Harris Springs Road, off the Mt Charleston exit into Kyle Canyon. it dead ends, but it's a VERY nice drive in the summer heat. takes longer than you think, too.

I should be getting back into Vegas by October. Im currently out East in Albequerque, NM. Depending on how much you like to rock crawl, (although, theres lots of dunes, hard pack, and other trails as well), someone here (or me, when I get back) can take you up to Logandale. That place is a lot of fun. Its about 45 miles north of Vegas on the 15.

USAF as well, out in reaper country though

Anyway, I know theres at least one good trail at Red Rock. There's probably more. If i'm not mistaken though, it's somewhere along the 13-mile loop or close to the end of it.

We found it by accident. It's just passed a picnic or viewing area, can't remember which. Anyway, the paved road just stops and it looks like you wouldn't be allowed to drive it, but we didn't see any signs so we thought we would give it a try. It starts off pretty mellow and only gets better as you climb. We were in a 4-runner and ended up turning around. The jeep would have eaten it for breakfast :2thumbsup:

Ahhh got it, whats your name? I'm an FE here at the 66th, i want to make sure you're on the inbound list. Do you know a student FE Winnette?? I'm his sponsor and trying to get in contact with him. Good luck with nights and see ya in a couple months. My name is Dan Cruz by the way............

I dont know Winnette. Ive been at the 66th since January. With a little help, I pretty much built the "new" Green Room, including the bar. Im not completely processed through the squadron, though.

Ill look for Winnette for you, and tell him youre looking for him.

BTW, my last name is my log in.

I guess you must stay in the wash for any rock obsticals

shoulda seen it before 2005 then, you could take a Civic up through there before the rains exposed and washed all those boulders down there.

yeah, all the really gnarly obstacles are in the washes.
I did see it before 05 I remember driving a honda crv through there in 2000
I also remember running it right after it got washed out
that was when it was fun:D
