Question for AtRoPiNe on Rough Country lift...

Man, your jeep looks awesome on your web site. I'm sold on the 3" RC lift for my stock '95 YJ. When I order the lift kit (Item #620 on roughcountry.com), will I need to order any additional equipment or accessories, or will everything I need be in the kit?

Also, I'm thinking about going to 32" tires after I install the lift. Thinking about BFG Mud Terrains. What other dimensions would I need in a tire (width, etc.) to be suitable for this lift?

Thanks again for your help.

greetings down there in n'oleans !!

Everything is in that kit. If you looked at the picture of the lift on my webpage(when it was sitting on my floor) It comes with everything you see there except the shackles (which I didn't put on anyways) You really don't need anything else.

As for installing it, there are a few things that Chris aka "Oh Yeah" helped me out on.

1) Before you put the rear leaf springs on you have to grind down that little nub that sits on top of the wedge. It comes too big to fit in the hole on your axle. (simple)

2) Chris had problems with this but I didn't. The transfer case drop bracket holes don't match up. There is only 1 way it goes on and Chris said he had to drill out one of the holes. (again..easy)

3) The pitman arm. Good luck with this hell-spawned little bastard. After 3 hours of prying, torching and breaking a puller, I brought it to a mechanic and he charged me $30 to pull it off and put the new one on. (hard) P.S. I ran for 2 weeks on the old pitman arm before pulling it off.

All in all this was very easy and I had a lot of fun doing it. The RC suspension is real good, a little bouncy at first but it seemed to ease up after I put the tires on.

As for the tires, Im running 33's with a little rubbing during heavy flex. I'll probably do a 1-2 inch body lift in the future. 32's will be fine. You have to pay attention to the backspacing on your wheels if you get new ones to make sure you don't rub the insides. I went with 10 inch wheels with 3 5/8 backspacing ( and I'm glad I did) with 12.5 inch tires. They stick out about 6 inches on the sides though but I like it :)

I hope I answered your questions, Email me backpacker888@hotmail.com if you have any other questions. You have a lot of people on this forum that are really helpful. Good luck and I can't wait to see your pics (make sure you take some B4 and after shots)

My RC 3" lift kit didn't include new spring bolts. The bolts for the shackle side of the springs were in the kit. I ended up needing 4 bolts. I had 2 bolts that were stuck in the metal sleeve, we had to cut them out with a torch. My t-case didn't quite line up right. The pitman arm is a pain in the ***, I also drove with the old one for 2 weeks.

Diddo to everything these guys said. I think we are the 3 most outspoken Rough Country owners out there. It is a good kit for the money, it is complete, well thought out, and good quality. The ride is a little rough but what aftermarket Springunder suspension isn't. If you need any help with the install, feel free to email me or post here and I will help you out.
As for the Pitman arm, I also broke 2 pitman arm pullers ($30), spent almost 4-6 hrs. total beating on the frigging thing and like Atro and Bonehead, I also took mine to Midas and they did mine for $20. I was not the least bit ashamed. That pitman arm almost put me in Thereapy. Anyway, call Rough Country and ask for Dave, tell him Chris Kotke told you, you could get the kit for $350. He has not been giving that deal lately, but I would not buy it for one penny over that. No matter what he says. Negotiate, I got mine for $350 and so should you. Good luck!

Thanks a million guys for all the advice. I think that I'm for sure going with the RC 3" lift. It'll be a couple of weeks before I get it going, but I'll be sure to post some photos on the web when it's finished.

Thanks again for all the help.

it is so good to see people with the rough country lift!! I mostly hang around the jeeps unlimtied forum and me and another guy seem to be the only ones with the rc lift. My self have the 3 in RC 1in conferr shackles and 33's. There should be some kind of Rough Country lift club ;) check out my website for some pics of my jeep.Lostweekend 4wd
