it's my turn..... this will serve as my official 350 swap thread. i'll use it to post updates, ask and answer questions. the end result is going to be a 350/700R4/231 combo.....first pics!!

this weekends progress.....
installed starter, grill, transfer case shifter, trans shifter, and did some work on the fuel lines. only got pics of the shifters.
not too hard, came with excellent instructions. shifts smooooooooth took about 1 1/2 hr (including the aluminum piece to cover the original hole in the floor)
good deal. are you puttin a boot on the t-case shifter? and im tearing my t-case apart right now. can you give me a little more info on what stays with the "c" and comes from the "J" thanks for any help in advance
no.....:thumbdown: honestly, haven't had much time to mess with it since my last post.....leave next thurs for a 11 day vacation, have been working 10-12 hour days and saturdays to make some extra $$$..... but when i get back on april 13..... it's balls to the wall!! gonna be driving by may 1.:cheers2:

ok..... need some help here..... i'm pretty mechanically inclined, but electrical..... forget it. i knew going into this that this would be the hardest part FOR ME..... i spent 6 hours today trying to figure out how to wire the chevy starter using the stock jeep wires..... is this possible???? if not, what do i need to do short of installing a button for it?? and please..... make it as idiot proof for me as possible.....:fish:
i still have the jeep starter wires going to the chevy starter, works just fine!
a lot easier than running all new wires IMO.
as far as how to do it, i just used the existing wires that went to the jeep starter, and connected them to the chevy......maybe 15 minutes?:rofl:

Its the same. The big wire is power and the little wire goes to the selonoid. The starter should have a S and an R on the selonoid. This means start and run.
ok..... my chevy starter has 2 studs, 1 big and 1 small. the original big red wire straight from the + terminal on the battery goes to the big stud. correct?
then i had 3 small wires on the jeep starter..... they go together?? one runs up the harness to a connecter, the other 2 wires go into the same little connector at the starter. one wire goes up the harness (i think to the alternator) then the other goes back to the plug that was on the side of the AX-5 i took out..... possibly a neutral safety switch?? if it is, it never worked anyways. sorry if i sound like a :newbie:, but like i said..... electrical ain't my thing!:2thumbsup:
yeppers, dump the neutral safety switch, and wire it exactly as the jeep starter was wired. i dont think i have a connector going from the starter to the alt though, but i am getting old i guess.....and it was last year for gods sake!:rofl:
bear with me! so the three small wires..... one is by itself, the other two are on the same connector..... can i just cut the one that goes to the neutral safety switch and leave the other onehooked up?
i think what i did on mine, was trace the wire from the ignition switch itself, tha twent to the starter. then put that onto the small connector on the chevy starter.
the big connector will goto the battery.
i dont "think" i have any other wires from the jeep on there. there was 1 wire from the painless harness that went to the starter, but that was it.
so i guess yes, just cut the neutral wire and give it a shot!

I had to bypass the stock starter circuit, the Chevy V8 starter would overload something in the stock jeep wiring and if I cranked it longer then a second I wouldn't be able to crank it again for a half hour or so, I was always jumping the starter with a screwdriver until I bypassed it.
This is going to be my last resort, so bottom line is you ran a wire from battery to distributor with a switch to cut power. then ran cable from battery to big post on starter, and wired from one post to the other (on starter) with a switch for starting. correct? what gauge wire did you use for the starter? dist?

thanks martin!!! i had them hooked up like that at least 7 times yesterday..... all a no go..... got to picking around at it today..... realized when a friend and i were pulling the 4 cyl, i asked him to unplug sensors and stuff..... well he unplugged EVERYTHING..... hooked a big plug back together and voila!!! cranks with the key!!! definitely shooting for firing up this weekend!!
