I just replaced the rear main engine seal in my 88 YJ with the 258 and noticed how much "slop" there was with the timing chain. Obviously this thing has stretched and needs replacing. Does anyone have any suggestions on timing chains, wether to go with the double roller chains for twice the cost or not? Also, if anyone has any suggestions on what type of chain to use, could you please provide a supplier or website so I can prder one up? Thanks in advance guys!
Ok Holmes it goes with how hard are you going to push your jeep! The 258 from what i have
heard is one tuff motor although they have there performance problems.www.jeepdoc.com
or krage motorsports, its the same web site sale the stock chain and gear set for a great price of 23.00 to 27.00 bucks they have been cheaper than most local auto parts stores in my area even with shipping charges.I am not sure which one of those prices you will need so if i were you i just give them a call and tell them what you need. They have been real great to me and look forward to doing business with them again. As for the double roller chain I have used them before in performance motors but my jeep engine was rebuilt before i got it so stock chain set was replaced with stock. If you have alot of miles on the jeep that kind of slop is most likley common. But if it does not have alot of miles and you put those miles on the chain then you might want to go with the double roller.Hope this helps. There is also KEY WORD.4x4hardware and 4x4 superstore if you want to compare prices.later
Looks like someone wants to crawl rocks someday. If not already! LOL. Hey its strong and will last so you cant beat that.
